My grandad is in his late 70's and had a flu jab about a week ago. Well now he is ill and in bed and hasn't wanted to eat anything for about a few days. He says he can't really move his arms and legs and is already thin before this happened. My question is, has this ever happened to you, and how did you get over it, how long were you ill for etc. Please tell me your experiences. thanks.

Oh God 3 weeks that is almost forever. He's not allergic to eggs. The doctor is coming on Monday but even that is too long in my opinion. the thing is i am in university in germany and he is in england and im wondering if i should put him first and fly there till he gets better. do you think i should do that?

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandad. I hope you do not mind but, I will be praying for his recovery and for you as well. YOu seem to have such a wonderful heart!

I cannot tell you if you should or, should not go to him as that is a decision you must make! I can tell you that I am due my flu shot next week and I will be taking it too! I do every year.

The only thing that has happened to me is I feel a little tired and not as "spry" as I normally do. This has not happened every year! It has only happened a couple of times and I was already experiencing some allergies, prior to the shot. Therefore, I attributed this to the pre-existing allergic responses.

I think your Grandad should seek medical attention as there could be something else which is going on with him. It is not normal for him not to want to eat. plus, he is feeling ill. I pray with all my heart that he gets medical attention and is on the mend, soon!

You can't get flu from the flu jab. Me n Bj get this injection every year without fail as does our 17yr old. We all have asthma n we are registered disabled. Bj has been hospitalised a few times over the years thru chest infections that have affected her asthma but that hasn't put any of us off having the jab. We've had the pneumonia jab too which lasts 10yrs. Your grandad was probably sickening for something before he had the jab so don't go thinking it's anything to do with it unless he's had an allergic reaction to it of course which is doubtful. If he hasn't got anyone to look after him at all then you could possibly request time off university through compassionate grounds if your uni does that. But otherwise, if he's got someone to look after him just keep in touch with them to find out how he's doing.

I had a flu jab nearly 3 weeks ago, I have a sore arm for a few days where the needle goes in. It takes about 3 weeks for the jab to take effect.

I have been ill since the jab though but I don't think it's to do with the jab itself, I seem to pick up germs when I visit the surgery or chemist. It's taking a long time to recover, but as I have diabetes as well as getting older, I expect that now.

Loss of appetite is normal when your not well, I didn't feel much like eating either, except simple bland food like vegetable soups, porridge and scrambled eggs. The best thing is keep warm, lots of rest, fluids and simple foods. A little gentle exercise when you feel like it but don't overdo it.

Hope your grandad is feeling better soon.

The flu shot isn't 100% for every strain of flu out there. They make a guess.....make a batch. It's not effective immediately and it's not a 100% protection from the flu.

I got a BAD flu a number of years ago. People were dropping like flies and I worked at a geratric doctors office....in Florida...during the winter. I got it......it was right at the same time AIDS was comming to light and the first symptoms were uncontrollable cough. I was fired because I had an uncontrollable cough and patients were afraid I might have Aids. There weren't tests then to say for sure about anything. I was put on anti-biotics for over a year.....didn't go away....got skin leisons....another "sign" of aids.......ended up being a problem of too many anti-biotics....mis-diagnosed for the right strain...got asthma.....then a skin fungus for all the wrong anti-biotics.....lost weight....I mean 85 lbs. poster child for aids.....but....didn't have it. Took about 5 years to re-bound.

I won't have a flu shot. Even after all that......no way. I simply don't trust them (vaccines). It's a GUESS. I'll take my chances.

If he has the flu it is because he was exposed to it before he got the flu shot..there is NOTHING in the shot to give him the flu..It is a KILLED virus..the white blood cells rush to the virus only to find it is already dead, they say O.K. but we will hang around for a few months just in case the real thing shows up..and if it does they attack before the virus gets established..in the olden days the shot was given with a small amt of the live virus and yes that did give some people a very mild case of the flu..You grandfather needs to be seen by his Dr. sounds like something else is going on..could be Guillian Barre or a slight stroke or any number of other things..

Had a flu shot (if that is what you are talking about) and had no side effects what so ever. IF he is allergic to eggs, he may be having a very bad reaction and should get to the docs for antihistomines! IF you are saying he has the flu, that is another story..allow about 3 weeks for full recovery. Good luck

I got my flu shot two weeks ago, in October as usual. I had a viral thing for a few days but so did a lot of people around me, whether they'd had the flu shot or not. I still remember a bout with flu that I had nearly 30 years ago. I don't ever want to be that sick again!

Yes, I qualify for senior citizenship and I have faithfully had my annual flu shot for many years with the exception of last year. In the early days I did get sick from them. Within 20 minutes to and hour I would get extremely ill but it never lasted long ,no more than an hour or so. But now they have changed them and they no longer make me sick at all. Last year is the first time I have missed in years.

When my daughter-in-law went to the hospital to have another baby I cared for their 3 year old son for three days. We had planned to share it among the other family in the area and me and the daycare, but when the time came he was sick and on antibiotics. I said since I was the only one who didn't have to go to work or school it would be no big problem if I caught it from him. I really enjoyed having him to myself for the 3 days and his illness only slowed him down enough for me to keep up with him.

Sure nuff I caught it and it took 2 trips to the doctor,2 antibiotic prescriptions and 3 weeks for me to get over it. Learned my lesson. Have already had my shot this year.

Whether you go to him is up to you but if he is 70 you should not assume the problem comes from the flu shot and he should see a doctor as soon as possible.

That could be an allergic reaction to the "jab" shot here in U.S.A. However I do not think I would want to take any chances. Do they have emergency medical services over there? If so I would contact them and ask for an ambulance to take him to the hospital. I would not wait for the doctor. I had a friend die from an allergic reaction to a pneumonia shot.

I have only had the flu shot ONCE in my entire life [now 65] and did get sick after it for a few days. They SWEAR now that can't/doesn't happen - hope so because I'm scheduled to get it and the pneumonia shot next month. Hope you grandad gets better - If I were you I'd contact the doc though
