If you start with two points, you can join them with a straight line. If you have three points that don't lie on a line, you can join them in pairs and create three lines. Those three lines intersect to create a triangle.
With four points, you get four distinct lines, forming a quadrilateral, with five points five lines, creating a pentagon.

Draw them, and see.
