if you have implied lines that go in a direction, it can make your mind go in the direction those lines are going and it kind of makes your eyes go to one place in the picture.. if that makes sense..

do your eyes go to that dark point? notice how the shelves of books make kind of lines that go to that point? that draws your eye to that area. not all lines in pictures are as easy to see in this picture. i just thought it would be a good example. hope i helped and i hope this is what you are talking about.

Imagine a scene like a stream, or creek, flowing in a meandering way, through a grassy field.

From the horizon, the eye will, naturally follow the stream down to where it passes closest to the observer. Or, the eye may follow the water UPSTREAM, to the horizon.

The scene doesn't move, in a painting or a photograph, but the eye will make the same movement.

Any good painting, drawing, poster, flyer, etc. will be designed to create this kind of movement. A good designer will want the eye to stay on the message, not flow right off the paper.

Perspective, color, size, fading, boldness, shape, solid, seperated, joined, curve, thin, bold, thickness, ect. However the line is maipulated to create the image in which is being perceived to the viewer. Many elements contribute to the movement and how you utilize these techniques is what creates the the movement of the line. It's all about perspective!
