I seem to have problems with problems like this one. I have a test tomorrow and I need to know how to solve problems like this one. A step by step procedure would be nice; so then I can understand how you got the answer. once again, the problem is: -1 + 6x = 23

FIrst add 1 to both sides:
6x = 24
Then divide both sides by 6:
x = 4

Well, -1 basically means that you are subtracting 1 digit off of 6x.
Therefore, you can change the problem by adding 1 to cancel the -1 out (bringing it to zero). But what you do to one side of the = sign, you must do to the other to keep the problem correct. So now you have 6x=24. 24 divided by 6 is 4, so x=4.
The work:
-1+6x=23
+1 +1
--- -----
6x=24
(24 divided by 6 is 4)
answer: x=4

First you must get the "X" on one side of the equal sign. Do that by doing the opposite sign of (-1). That means you need to add 1 to both sides....
-1+6x+1=23+1
The one's cancel each other out on the left side leaving..
6x=24
now divide everything by 6 (b/c 6x means multiply 6 times X. Do the opposite which is divide). Keep in mind what you do on one side of the equals sign you must do on the other.
6x/6=24/6 ... x=4. plug in "4" every where you see "X" in the original problem and check.
-1+6(4)=23
-1+24=23
23=23 it checks.
Hope this helps.

Here is a step by step procedure for this problem.
And im positive it is correct because i just was in the type of algebra/ math last year.
-1+6x=23.
6x=24 --i got that by adding positive one to each side of the equal sign. -1 + 1 cancels out and 23 + 1 = 24. Then you drop the 6x down.
x=4 -- I got the answer by dividing 24 by 6 because you have to cancel out the x.
I hope this helped you out!

You want to get x by itself by moving the -1 to the other side.
By doing this the -1 becomes +1 so its : 6x=23+1
Next add 23+1+24 and you have 6x=24.
Next solve for x by divding both sides by 6 so x=4!!!
