everyone says a pair of convicts is ok in a 20 gallon (not breeding) so can i put 2 female fire mouths in a 20 gallon high

You could, but you will still see them fighting for the position of dominant female. As Bettachris said, a 20 gallon LONG would be MUCH better because it would allow more territorial breakup with more decorations. I wouldn't put two Firemouths in anything less than 30 gallons, but I am sure 20 gallons (LONG) would be fine if you had adequate hiding places...

But no, im not sure you are aware of how large a firmouth will get, and two females in a 20 HIGH and not LONG is a bad idea.

They will be stunted.
