I am about to become an Eagle Scout (I was also Senior Patrol Leader for 2 years), I play tennis for my school (I'm working on varsity), I was Boy Scout of the year for my district, I have about a 3.75 (on 4.0 scale) GPA, I am in 2 school clubs, recieved the Union League of Philadelphia good citizenship award, am in National Honors Society, and am active in my church youth group.

Hello B.W.:

You have a good start. Make sure you have plenty of mathematics courses. A language other than English is needed. If you can speak Arabic or Farsi, you will have a great leg up on the competition. For additional information, visit the site below and check out the Home school requirements. Even though you are not home schooled, it will give you the info you seek.

It will help if you have a part time job; this will show that you have ambition.

Keep up the athletics.

There are other ways to enter the academy, if you don't get a direct appointment; there are academy prep schools that have openings, and the Vice President can nominate 15 applicants. If you enlist in the Navy and pass the tests, they have a prep school that feeds into the academy as well.

Things to think about if you are interviewed,
Why do you want to attend Annapolis?
What is your career goal?
What will you do if you can't attend Annapolis?

Probably pretty good. Look like, and be, a real straight arrow. Absolutely no hint of drug involvement.

Helps if your father when to the USNA, or you have an Admiral in the family, or some ancestor won the Medal of Honor while in the Navy.

Your US senators get to appoint two applicants every year, in case you have any connection in that area.
