I am currently being charged with a Theft II violation even though I didn't steal anything, the fact that I didn't tell on the person means I'm guilty of the same thing. I had my first court appearance today and haven't decided if I will take their outrageous plea bargain or find out if there is something else I can do so it will be decided in another 3 weeks if it actually goes on my record or not. I can't afford a real lawyer, just a public pretender... who didn't care at all about the situaiton he just looked at my file and read it like it was fact. He didn't try to look for any reason to give me hope whatsoever. lol anyway I've learned my lesson, always shop alone... but I graduate in a year, will this be something that definetly excludes me from finally getting a good job? Anyone with tips and experience? Thanks :)

It will not be a problem as long as you are honest and upfront about it if asked in an interview. If they chose not to hire you, that is their choice, but you can still be hired.

Lying about it or covering it up will make it harder to get a job.

Your lawyer can not make up facts no matter how much you pay them. Can you give your lawyer any information, witnesses etc that shows you are not guilty? Did you read the law that you are charged with violating? Does the evidence show you violated the law?

If you are a juvenile (you say you graduate in a year, but not from what. You don't state your age) it is unlikely it will follow you once you are an adult.

Even if you are an adult, you will get past a misdemeanor like this by being honest and at least acting sorry (that you did it, not that you got caught).

No, most store owners wouldn't let a 14 year old work. Most 14 year olds who want jobs work as a dog walker or something like that. 14 is a little too young to get a job, maybe you should work on volunteering.

It might give you licensure problems, especially if you're handling drugs.

shouldn't be a problem as long you are up front with an employer.
