One of the U.S diplomats said that Iraq assignment was a possible death sentence for him, and refused to go to Iraq. What's your opinion on these diplomats?

Its very dangerous there for Americans right now, especially high profile Americans.
If a military general refused to go to Iraq, it would be more of an issue. But a diplomat is a civilian post, and if they don't want to put their lives in danger, it is their business.

Forced assignments to war zones and combat areas are a bad idea. This is not a usual condition of their jobs.
