An extrasolar planet, or exoplanet, is a planet beyond the Solar System. As of October 2007, the count of known exoplanets is 263. Most of them have been detected through indirect methods rather than actual imaging, such as the use of optical telescopes. Most of them are massive giant planets likely to resemble Jupiter.
