Recently Dennis Milligan, the chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party, sounded pretty excited about the prospect of domestic terrorism. Rick Santorum has echoed similar sentiments on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show.

Why would they look forward to the death and fear caused by terror attack?

Could a terror attack represent a political opportunity for these people?

“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country.”

Because then this will help try to justify the war in Iraq and their whole "war on terror." The Con's basically just love military and war. They try to use the Fear tactic to accomplish their military goals.

Well it's not a matter of IF there will be another Terror attack on the USA it's simply a matter of WHEN.

I doubt Mr Milligan or Mr Santorum actually look forward to an attack but if when the next attack occurs and if it is before the 2008 Presidental Election then it's bad news for Democrats
who thye majority of Americans view as being weak on National Security issues. So yes it would represent a political opportunity for some politicians.

It's not surprising, considering how much mileage they got out of 9/11. But people are waking up and realizing that, even if we do face more terrorism in the future, the solution isn't going to come from the Conservatives in the form of wiping Liberals off the map. They've had a good long chance to show us all that their way was best, and all we have to show for it is we're worse off now than ever before. Every problem the US faces -- every enemy of the US -- is not the fault of the Liberals and progressives. Rather, Liberals have been responsible for many of the benefits of living in our society -- like better employment standards and environmental protections. The founding fathers of the United States were very liberal and progressive for their time! There has to be some balance between liberal and conservative in order to the United States to continue on growing and progressing. We've had an imbalance lately, and you're correct to think that fearmongering is at the root of that. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, "we have nothing to fear but fear itself."

Sorry, but the answer is no. We simply choose to do what is necessary to keep another terror attack from occurring instead of sticking our head in the sand and pretending like it's an impossibility.

I, for one, would rather be cognizant of people who want me and my family dead, people who hate my country for the sake of hate itself and to the on the lookout, so to speak, for such people. If you want to stick your head in your *** and look the other way, more power to ya. But, it's because of people like Mr. Milligan that there have been no further attacks on US soil in 6 years. If we pretend that "it's not that bad", that's when it gets "that bad".

Recognizing the potential for an attack is much better than ignoring the risk, and dening the progresses made that has kept us from having another attack.

If those of us who support the war "wanted a terrorist attack" we would be with you and want the troops to come back home.

I think I smell a liberal here. No one is looking forward to terrorist attack. The statement is ludicrous.

They are so excited because they use fear as a weapon. The republicans continue to try and scare us and then they present themselves as the only ones that can save us. They are just trying to get elected again
