Honestly, I went searching and I can't find ANYTHING on 2008's payroll, right now they stand at $195 mill. To estimate, minus A-Rod, Abreu, Posada, Mariano, and Pettite, it's about 114 mill

The Yankees payroll in 2007 was $195 million. A-Rod was at $27.7 million, Pettitte $16 million, Abrau $15.6 million, Posada $12 million, and Rivera $10.5 million. The five players accounted for over $81 million of the teams payroll. The amount of money paid to these five players alone was more than the entire payroll of the Indians, Rockies and Diamondbacks who all made the playoffs this year as well as 12 other MLB teams. The Yankees have a history of going after high priced players and will, no doubt, bring in other expensive players should these players leave. I believe the 2008 payroll will continue to be in the $175 million to $200 million range next year as they fill out their roster.

Who cares it could be 300m
Having a high payroll doesn't mean you are to win the world series just as the Yankees organization they know what if feels to have the highest payroll for the 7 or 8 years. But remember 7 years and counting

$185 million plus, but whatever it is, you know it will always be the highest in baseball. Love them or hate them, it should be that way. Even before the era of free agency, they had the highest payroll in baseball, they have since the mid 1920's, so it's nothing new they have the highest payroll. They are the richest team in baseball in the largest market in baseball. They will never have $100 million payroll, it's not realistic.
