The house next door to me was repossessed and has been empty for over a year. We live in an estate neighborhood and all the houses have large lawns. It has 3 acres that are not mown and rodents, snakes and such have moved onto the lawn. The row of spruce trees that run next to my house are dying. We paid to cut and remove stumps of 2 of them but there are many more about to die. The house is infested with termites and goodness knows what else. Who is responsible to take care of this mess? Surely we aren't supposed to just sit back and live with it when we have to live by restrictions and rules.

Call the City. They will mow it and bill the owner (the bank). Tell them about rodents & snakes & they will force the bank into taking care of that, or do it themselves & bill the bank.

it was just a typo. i think you should contact your homeowners association first. alot could depend on who actually owns the house right now. if you think about it if it is the responsibility of the person that owned the house you may do better in talking to your neighbors than talking with the people that owned the home. after all they couldn't afford to keep the house i'm sure they can't afford to do maintence on a home they no longer live in.

usually towns have laws that require lawns to be kept under 6" or something, so you might want to tell someone at town hall and they'll get in contact with owner who is probably a bank

Contact city hall.
Health dept will be interested in rodents and unmowed yards.
They can chase down the 'owners'.

Go to the county website and do a parcel search. That will tell you who owns the property.

you may check with you local city trash collection company. [ must be city, not privatly owned] here in AZ the city trash companies will inspect and cite the owner of the property for not maintaining the property. having weeds and debris is a collection site for mosquitos and rats, creating a health hazard and we have city codes against it.

whoever reposessed the property owns it and is resposnible for its maintenance - the bank, the sheriff, whoever. You can sue them, and they often wait until someone does before spending any money on the place.
