There are some spoilers in here, but I doubt you will understand most of it, until you see it play out on the screen before you.
Here is the summary for Kingdom Hearts 1, and I suggest you play it before I can give any information about Kingdom Hearts 2, or the game that precedes that on the Game Boy Advanced known as Chain of Memories. I highly reccomend these games!
Kingdom Hearts is an amazing video game series with great plot twists, classic disney and final fantasy characters, and three new characters that go out on a long journey.
Kingdom Hearts 1 starts off on a paradise set of islands (although only 1 island is shown in this game) known as Destiny Islands. The character you get to control is a 14 year old boy named Sora. His best friends are Riku, a 15 year old boy, and Kairi, a 14 year old girl. On the island also, are Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie from the Final Fantasy series but they are portrayed as kids.
Riku, the true keyblade master, decided to open the Door to Darkness which allows the heartless creatures and a very powerful force to arrive on Destiny Islands destroying the islands and swallowing them into the darkness. Because of this act, Riku is denied the keyblade, and Sora takes over getting the keyblade temporarily.
Sora, in the world known as Traverse Town (a world new for the series) joins Donald and Goofy, Disney creations, to find Riku and Kairi and to counter the heartless threat. Throughout the game, Sora visits various worlds, mostly disney worlds, countering the heartless threat by locking the keyhole to the worlds with his keyblade.
As time progresses in the game, Sora learns that many of the classical disney villains are banding together with the evil Maleficent at the head of the group. Little does Sora know however that Riku is being deceived into acquiring dark powers and the power of darkness by Maleficent and a new character named Ansem. Eventually, in a world called Hollow Bastion, Riku (who has been corrupted by darkness) faces off against Sora and loses. Riku then turns to the being known as Ansem and is deceived by him with the end being Ansem sends Riku's heart and body together to Kingdom Hearts (yes, Kingdom Hearts is a place) and takes over Riku's essence. Sora is able to find Ansem and defeat him thereby securing that his friend Riku will be fine.
And Kairi is a major part of the game as well, but I won't spoil any of that.

Yeah I'm like 21 and not too big of a video game fanatic... I had been hearing about it for a while, so out of boredom one day I bought it, and started playing it and I must say that I was really impressed with the story line and the suspense of the game, especially for a Disney game. I'm at the end of KH1 right now and I am going to buy KH2 after I finish... I really would recommend it if you are interested in games like this. Despite what many people say, it's really not an "anime" type of game, which I am really not into at all. This is more of a role play game with lots of interesting characters and if you have seen any of the Disney movies, you get to interact with those characters which is pretty cool... Anyway, here are descriptions for both KH1 and KH2. Hope you find this helpful!
KH1
If you thought a Disney RPG was an unlikely concept to begin with, consider this. Not only is Kingdom Hearts a Disney RPG, it's a huge, sprawling adventure with all the challenge and breadth of a Final Fantasy or any other top-notch Square production. The quest is long, the enemies are powerful, and there are plenty of side-quests to explore along the way.
Use the walkthrough here to blast through to the end of the quest, all the way to the secret fortresses of the Heartless, but don't forget to check the secrets section to find some more things to do on the way. There are fighting tournaments, hidden items, summoned allies, 99 Dalmatians to rescue (since their parents are safe at home, still), and plenty of other odds and ends to explore while taking care of the usual business of saving the world.
KH2:
Sora's saga continues with another giant Kingdom Hearts RPG on the PS2. Of course, he's not alone. Joining him on his quest are Donald, Goofy, King Mickey, and IGN Guides. If you're looking for help saving Kairi from the Heartless and ruthless Organization XIII, you've come to the right place. Take a look inside IGN's Kingdom Hearts II guide for a detailed walkthrough, help getting started, and an instructions on how to get past those side quests. Think of our guide as the Keyblade to unlocking the secrets of the Keyblade.

Kingdom Hearts is an integration of the Disney franchise and Square Enix's Final Fantasy... I know that sounds lame, but the final outcome is surprisingly addictive and entertaining!
The player takes the role of Sora, a boy whom lived a tranquile life on paradise island. However, a terrible darkness envelops his home! Capturing his cherishes friends Riku (Who voluntarily surrendered to the darkness) and kairi. Sora escapes his doomed world through a portal which tansports him to a foreign world! Sora soon encounters evil beings called the "Heartless," creatures whom feed on ones heart, and eventually multiply theirt numbers. Along with the Heartless, Sora discovers his divine weapon, a powerful sword labelled, the Keyblade. So many questions, but who to ask? It is here where Sora encounters Squall (yes, Squall from Final Fantasy 8) and a plethora of other characters, including Donald. (A sorceror) and Goofy (a sheild bearing knight) It is revealed here the story of plot of the game. Apparently the evil being maleficient is searching the worlds for their door, which holds an omniscent power. Sora, being the one who wields the keyblade, has been entrusted to put a halt to the spreading darkness, and sace the worlds, and his friends! The stroy line steadily grows deeper as the game progresses, however I'll let you be the judge as to whether its worth discovering or not!
P.S. The game is extremely fun!
