Both B and C.

Depends on what you expect to get out of the military. We spent years reaping the 'peace dividend' by reducing the size of our military starting during the Bush 41 years and continuing on right through the Clinton years.

If the sole responsibility of the military is to step in as a police force that can kick invaders out of a country, the US miltary is capable of doing that even at a reduced size. In fact, they were able to invade a foreign country and defeat its military forces very quickly.

If we want the military to be able to occupy two countries simulataneously (Iraq and Afghanistan), then the size needs to be increased by a lot. Technological superiority and better training make our military a great combat force, but occupation of a country is a whole other task from conquering it in the first place.

In 2000, invading and occupying a foreign country is something that most people would have considered as something the US would never do, so why base troop levels on that? We reduced the size of the military to accomplish only the tasks we thought we'd ask the military to do.

E - The US is the only superpower in the world. Obviously it has the strongest, most well equipped - military.

No, it is not too weak but it can become bigger (Although bigger does not mean better or more technologically advanced)
because of our strong economy. If we allowed convicted felons to join the military it could become bigger.

I think the military is just fine how it is, thank you. If they wanted it bigger, they'd just up recruitment goals.
