We're working on proportions and I'm stuck on this one:

(1 - 8f) / 2 is equal to (2 - f) / 6

Solve for f. Can anyone please help, and possibly explain this to me? Oh, and the answer isn't 0.04347826. Thanks, very much appreciated.

Thanks Alex, you were right, I kept getting that but when I plugged it into the equation it didn't work right. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong before but when I worked it out this last time it came out right so thanks much.

Cross multiply.
6(1-8f)=2(2-f)
3(1-8f)=2-f
3-24f=2-f
1=23f
f=1/23=0.04347826
Sorry, but whoever claimed that is wrong. Unless there are specific instructions, that is the answer.

(1 - 8f) / 2 = (2 - f) / 6

( 1 - 8f) 6 = (2 - f) 2

6 -48f = 4 -2f
-46 f = -2
f = 2/46

f = 0.04347826

f = 0.043
