In a sense the GOP needs someone who will energize their base. They need to have a polarizing effect.

Giuliani is a left leaning Republican. He would NOT sway voters away from Senator Clinton.

The GOP needs another Ronald Reagan. Or at least a more right wing, traditionalist candidate who has some charisma.

McCain, Thomspon, or Romney could be the man for the job.

But Giuliani is far too left leaning. And I think he will turn off a lot of voters in the end.

Your thoughts?

Giuliani is defying political gravity.
The conventional wisdom is that a fiscal coservative can not survive if he's a social liberal. Yet, Giuliani leads the national polls. Huh?
That flies in the face of all convention, doesn't it?
What to do? We can start by rethinking the definition of a conservative in America or, we must assume that the majority of the country is more centrist than we all previously thought, that is if you believe the polls. I don't usually but, when they all say the same thing, you have to take notice.
It's no accident that Hillary is the most centrist of the Democratic party field. She is a master at sensing wind direction. She knows exactly what she's doing. Yes she's full of crap but, that's not the point. The point is, her rhetoric is reflective of voter mental weakness. That's why she is attacking Giuliani and not the Dem field. She wants his centrist voter list.
Having said all that. Hillary is now in NY politics. She knows that Giuliani did not get the Mafia out of NY without making some deals with the devil. She will wipe the floor with him because she knows where all his bodies are buried.
Giuliani lines up with my political thinking but, I will vote for Romney and he will be your next president.
The neo cons punished Bush in 2006 for not being the fiscal conservative he promised and sat out that election. They gave the Democrats enough rope to hang themselves and they did not disappoint. Congress is a car wreck.
They won't sit this one out. They will endorse Romney.
Done deal.

If they nominate Giuliani, Hillary Clinton will, without a doubt, be our next President. He cannot beat her. People think her negatives are high? Wow. The first responders will come out in force against him, his own kids won't even stand on the same stage with him, his personal life reads like a cheap novel, people are already sick of him running on 9/11, he completely takes out the huge evangelical voting base because they'll stay home before ever voting for a pro-choice candidate, and he's got nothing but 9/11 and acting tough.

The only shot the Republicans have to beat her is John McCain, and they don't seem to realize it at all. The evangelicals don't like Thompson since he declared (like an idiot) that he just doesn't go to church much and they are aware he was pro-choice at one time and don't trust him because of it. Romney's religion is huge to them - they consider Mormonism a cult religion, and he was heavily pro-choice and pro-gay just a very short time ago.

I think he could give Hillary a good fight... :)

Seriously, if he is nominated (and I'm not a Rudy person), I think that he is capable of swaying people because he is moderate. Remember, Hillary is dividing the Democrats. You either like her or you don't and there are few if any in betweens.

Given the choice between the two, I'd vote for Rudy, if I have to and I'm not alone. As a result, he stands a damned good chance.

Hillary is enough to energize the convservative base...

The swing voters will decide the election.

Rudy having a pragmatic rather than ideological platform could appeal to these "middle-of-the-road" people.

On all the important stuff he is as conservative as it gets. Who cares about the social issues. The government shouldn't be legislating morality one way or the other. It's called being free. I can make up my own mind on what's right and wrong.

Republicans will turn out in droves, even if Imus is their candidate. Sending Hillary back to Dogpatch is the goal.
