yeah i am very aware that it is their right to not pay me. I cannot afford to just leave and find another employer, who would prob not get me insurance until after 90 days...not happening. I was just wondering if perhaps there was something out there that might help in this kind of situation. Thanks

Unfortunately, no. Short term disability is a separate insurance thing and most normal medical insurances do not cover things like that. To make it even worse, you have to have the short term disability BEFORE you get Pregnant. It really sucks, I know. The only thing I can possibly suggest is quiting your job "for your health", this will entitle you to unemployment in most states. Hopefully you do not have a job that you really like....so sorry, cheer up though, at least you will have a little one soon!!!

First off the Social Security Administration has very strict definitions of disability. You generally must be unable to engage in substantial gainful activity by reason of a physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or last for at least 12 months. Social Security disability benefits are not intended for temporary conditions. There is also a 5-month waiting period for benefits. I would check with the agent that writes your other insurance. I did a quick search and found a couple of carriers that write individual STD (Colonial Life and MetLife) but I would want to work with an agent to be sure the policy provisions include maternity as a disability.

I am not paid for working during maternity leave, but I am still on the insurance through work during that time. They assured me of the this. Maybe it varies from place to place? Also, the way I would get paid while on maternity leave would be if I had enough sick leave days accrued. Unfortunately I don't, but I am going to use two weeks of vacation pay for, well, two of the weeks.

Yeah, find an employer who offers paid maternity leave. Employers are not required to pay you for a leave. They are required to give you 12 weeks of unpaid family leave, but that's it.

Sorry sweetie, any short term disability that would pay it, you would of had to have before you got pregnant. Good Luck

Your company is required to offer you FMLA (what maternity leave is now). It may be unpaid though. It is most common that all or most of your leave will be unpaid.
