If an illegal immigrant is allowed to get government benefits then we may as well just give our government benefits to everyone in the world.

Which of course is radical, drastic, and economically fatal (not to mention impossible). So what draws the line? How do we decide who gets U.S. benefits and who doesn't? Because I think it's safe to assume that we can't possibly give benefits to the whole globe. Why not limit benefits to the American people!!!

People who are American citizens (legally and rightfully so) deserve the benefits of living in America.

People who are NOT American citizens Mexicans, Asians, Whites, WHOEVER, it doesn't matter, should NOT get the benefits of being here-- because they are here ILLEGALLY.

It costs money for people to gain citizenship and a lot of legwork for them to be approved legally. If they're not willing to go through that process, follow our laws and our government....then why should they benefit from our government?

And to the first person: "illegal immigrants do all the jobs that people don't want to do"? Where is this coming from? Do you have any references or something to base that on? Or are you just a college kid mimicking your professor or spewing out some rhetoric you've heard others say and have no clue what you're talking about?

The only benefit they should get is the benefit of bus fare back to Mexico and a swift kick in the a** once they get off.

Fred Thompson said he doesn't support giving driver's licenses to undocumented workers. He maintains they should not have the privilege of driving, saying it would be rewarding people who break the law.

Because they are people. We can't as a civilized society deny any human of basic care. If we don't then we can no longer tell other countries how wonderful and compassionate we are.

A big part of it is that those benefit giving agencies can justify expanding their budgets if they are overburdened.

I can't think of any reason why illegal immigrants should get any government benefits.

To the first person, thanks for the generalized answer that everybody knows isn't true. I see plenty of poor, white folks cleaning drains and doing construction.

Personally, its beyond me why the government wants to do this, but I hope enough people, and I, will stand up against it.

They shouldn't. They should be deported. Period. They don't deserve anything. My family members way back when came here legally, and they can do the same thing.

You're excused. What did you do, sneeze? No they shouldn't get any benefits at all until they're here legally.
