In New York, Democrats want to give drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. I think this is completely ridiculous and am strongly against it. What is your view on it?
A side point, what do you think about torture on suspected terrorists? Should it be legal or not?

Getting a drivers license has always been a privelege, There is no constitutional amendment guaranteeing a drivers license.
So if someone is here in flagrant violation of this countries sovereignty then granting that person the privilege of obtaining a valid an legal drivers license from this country is absurd.
That being said, that while someone is visiting this country and they have been granted a license in their own country, we accept that license as a valid permit to drive in this country for a period of time.
So if they want to drive legally in this country, have them go back to their own country get a license their, then come here legally and it will be recognized. Until then you should be arrested if you are found driving in this country without a valid license.
As for the argument that if they had a DL they would get insurance. how does that follow. One is not a true cause and effect. Insurance is expensive, I find it far more likely that in states where insurance is mandatory, it would be like SS# they would by one policy and share it with a thousand drivers. thus invalidating the policy.
As for Torture, torture is already illegal according to U.S Statues, what is being debated is what constitutes torture.
Personally I am in a Grey area here. Do the ends justify the means? Quite a quandary.

Giving a drivers license to an illegal should be illegal. Now for torture if a person is actually a terrorist then he!! yeah torture the s$*t out of them.

I don't have a problem with illegals driving as long as they know the rules. I would make them take a driver's ed class.
Here in Ga that's there are lots of immigrants that drive around without a license. They do lots of things that are illegal and can put people('s) lives at risk. I wouldn't mind them taking a driving course.
Now here's the problem...if they do that then it's like a welcome to the United States because then they wouldn't have to worry about driving illegaly and getting caught.
About the terrorist...I don't think they should torture the terrorists. Just put them in jail...no need to do what they do, that's just following their bad example.

I think non-Mexicans should not have any say in Mexican politics. For the same reason, I feel that non-US citizens should not have any say in US politics, just as it's the case now. Let Mexicans decide what laws they want to implement in Mexico, and let us Americans decide what laws we want to implement in our country. On a more personal note, I don't really care about Mexican driver license and education laws; what I'm personally interested in is that I can fly cheaply to Cabo San Lucas or Cancun and have a good time there!

When I lived overseas, I used my U.S. driver's license. Others can do the same here. There is a period of time within which you should acquire a license if you stay in a country for that length of time. I think, if people come to our country it is OK to use the license from their country. If anything, we should validate their license but ultimately they should be tested here to make sure they know our rules of the road. As we do, others can get an International Driver's License.

well the main question you should ask your self is that: would you rather heve illegal immigrants drive with a licence than without one knowing you migth one day get in to an accident and let say it involves an illegal immigrant, if they have a licence they get insurance for their car and u would get pay for any damages rigth?? also just because they are getting a licence doesn't mean they are getting legal status here. Plus the government will know for sure who is ilegal and who's not....
And about the torturing if suspected terrorist, i think that is wrong because we dont like it when its done to us why would we wnt to do it to some one else, evethough they migth be terrorist or not we don't know for sure....

No ILLEGAL aliens do not deserve the same PRIVILEGES that legal immigrants and citizens receive. As for torture they are following the term set forward by the Geneva convention I don't know why we're bound by them. If a little nail pulling can save even one of our guys then I'm in favor!

If the government knows they are illegal they should be deported. It's like a bank giving a loan to a guy who dropped in to rob the place over the weekend. Only legal immigrants should receive any kind of service in this country.

wow...two questions in one...
1. This is complicated...because it's a trade off... Do I want immigrants to have DL's ?....NO of course not...they don't deserve to. BUT, what happens if they do not ?...they can't get insurance either...does that stop them from driving ?...not usually ! So, I guess I would rather an illegal immigrant crash into me with insurance....to have insurance they have to have a DL. - Answer: Yes...reluctantly yes.
2. Hell no we shouldn't torture. Not a single peice of good intel has come out of it anyway. Not to mention it is a contradiction to American values in general....we lose all credibility if we take that road. The right and moral path often times is the hardest to endure....but ends never justify means.

I agree with you on the drivers license issue. That's completely ridiculous.
On the torture issue. No, it should not be legal. If we make it legal then we're just as bad as leaders like Hitler.
