My bf and I recently broke up. He's 24, I'm 23. The Dean of our law school got involved because we had a loud fight outdoors. She's made both of sign a promise that we won't speak for a year. I really can't imagine not speaking to the person who was my best friend for an entire year. I feel that what the Dean is making us do is ridiculous and pointless. At any rate, I have to comply. How can I not speak to someone I love, care about, and see in class everyday?

I had to sign it in order to resolve this dispute. She was threatening to discipline us. I didn't want something to go on my record. I cannot contact him in any way - including text messages, e-mail, etc.

Not sure what to do.

First of all how can she make you sign anything stating that you won't speak to someone...she does not have that right

and

second of all why did you sign it if you did not think that you would be able to follow through?

I think Sunbun got it right, the Dean was trying to make a point. If you cannot act like mature adults than there is no point to be in this relationship.

The only way to make this easy on you is that you two will have to see each other in ways that you wont get caught, crowded parties, the mall, get a hotel for the night. Other times you will just to keep your mind focus on other things...like school work.

Cause you know all college students focus on school work :)

Law school huh. Was it signed and notarized? Are you sure this is a legally binding contract? Maybe you should speak to one of your law professors about this. I'm not trying to male light of this or anything but come on, it's 2007, who keeps promises anymore?

Just talk to him. I am sure the Dean ment to give you two time to settle down, and re-evaluate where you two stand with each other. Sometimes you have to be seperated to find out, you need each other.

Give it some time, then forget about the contract. Give you two something to work on, by researching ways out of it.

You have to grow up and act like an adult here, this is what life is preparing you for. If you two cared and loved each other the two of you would not have acted this way.

You didn't have to sign it. That would have been a good time to come up with plan B. Solve it yourself. Your not married, and this is not divorce court.
