^Wolves don't deserve the negative portrayal, they are an important part of our environment. Wolves don't attack people, it's people who attack and kill wolves.
Wolves are social animals that live in packs with highly organized, complex social systems.
Some important similarities exist between a wolf pack and a human family or social group. Please see the link below and find out how you can help.

They do have a pretty negative portrayal and a lot of it's from Literature. But that's by excluding Jack London, an excellent author who did a lot to portray the pride and beauty of wolves. People will always have a fear of carnivores, especially ones that can eat humans. Some might respect and honor them as well, but fear is what leads to that negative portrayal.
Authors are no different and will put that fear into their works. Wolves deserve every bit of the same negative portrayal in literature as bears, lions, foxes, weasels, sharks, piranhas, etc. They all deserve it because it's the closest thing keeping them from complete extinction: human fear. Wolves are beautiful creatures and if a negative portrayal is what's keeping them alive, then why argue it.
So, read some Jack London. Call of the Wild and White Fang are good starts. Those two should induce some more wolfish warm and fuzzies. :)

Wolves have received much of their negative portrayal in literature due to the limited knowledge about this wonderful animal's true nature. Yes, they are carnivores. But, so are we. Only, we have developed more sofisticated ways of killing. For wolves, hunting and killing are just a way of survival. That part of them aside, wolves are wondeful parents and have one of the most highly-developed social structures in the animal kingdom (I believe it rivals our own social structure at times!). For some, portraying wolves as bloodthirsty creatures with a personal vendetta against man may make for entertaining reading. But, if that was the case, we would all be arming ourselves in case the off-chance we become hunted by a pack of wolves. Most encounters with wolves happen on their "turf" with us (humans) either provoking or enticing them to attack. Remember, wolves are predators and act like one. If you display "prey" behavior, such as showing fear or running, you greatly increase your chances of being attacked. My suggestion to anyone before they enter wolf country is do your research. You wouldn't enter bear country without learning about bears and they are just as dangerous. I live in a state (Minnesota) where wolves are protected and honored. There is nothing quite like watching a wolf pack in it's natural surroundings and caring for each other. Still, few humans have ever had the honor of being accepted into the "pack." Those who have had that special blessing don't believe in stories about the "Big Bad Wolf." If you want to know more about wolves and how they live, I have included a website that makes for real interesting and entertaining literature!

No they don't! They are smart creatures! Maybe people would appreciate them more if they think about them practically being dogs. In stories there always the bad guys. I personally love wolves! They were good in the story of Romulus and Remus. The mother wolf took care of the twins when there parents were gone. Go wolves!

No, they do not.
They are one of the most intelligent mammals ~ supposedly second only to humans.
They are known for their complex social structure, and willingness to adopt and raise another animal's young ~ hence all the cases of children being raised by wolves.
Wolves were our original hunting companions, and we bred all our modern dogs from them.
At one time they were worshiped by many cultures ~ the Native Americans are one of the few who still do this.
This book ~ Neither God Nor Devil ~ is particularly good :~

I have always loved wolves! They are smart and intelligent creatures that should be respected. Maybe if people read the two books, "The Sight" and "Fell" by David Clement-Davies, they would have a different perspective on wolves. These two books are my favorite and i recomend you read them.
