I just went into ITV.com and found this statement
"Christmas should be downgraded in order to give other religions an equal footing, according to a think tank report.

The Institute for Public Policy Research suggested the move would help community cohesion."

what do you think about this?

It happened here!! We used to have a beautiful Christmas tree at city hall every Christmas the people in power said to be fair to other religions they took it down and we no longer have a tree !! The Jewish community wanted it gone !! They brought a tree inside city hall but that wasn't being politically correct so that had to go too!! I don't know where they get their info from because everybody I've talked to they love to see the tree Jewish,Indian,Muslim all of the people I know anyway. It came down to some people wouldn't say Merry Christmas because they didn't want to offend. They started to say Happy Holidays !! Even the sales people in the stores were told to say Happy Holidays or they could be fired!! I was born and raised here and as a child it was never a problem until now!! I think the world has gone mad trying to be politically correct!!

I don't think its right to downgrade it in order to give other religions an equal footing, but I do believe in downgrading it to get back to the real meaning of Christmas which is Christ's birth, I'm not a Christian and I do feel that the pressure that families are under to keep people and children happy at Christmas time is far too heavy...

Multiculturalism doesn't mean no expression of faith, but recognition of all faiths. While I believe this I also believe that Christmas has long been turned into a commercial and moneymaking celebration,do we really need 2 months of lights, music and shopping to celebrate one day?

I think somebody just got a big grant from the government to study Christmas, and they came up with this crap. Since when does the minority dictate to the majority?

I read this also in todays Daily Mail and was appalled. Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind. There is no other name given under Heaven by which Man must be saved.

Uhhh; I've heard it all now. It think its really wrong. I would never go to another country and expect them to tone down their relegion because i was in the country, People should be able to celebrate how they want.

i think this is stupid, this is our country and i am not trying to be racist but this is our country and Christmas is one of our traditions...why should we downgrade it for people of other religions? i am not any religion but i celebrate Christmas....why cannot they just support what they do and leave us to do what we do in our own country

i've heard about it but i really couldn't care less - if i offend people, it's their crummy fault they're narrow-minded. i'm celebrating xmas if people like it or not
