hmm

Recently I had some bats get in my house and fly around and generally scare the bejesus out of me. When I brought this up in conversation, many of my friends had helpful and interesting facts about bats that they told me over and over and over again.

Bats aren't rodents
The Swedish word for bat means literally "flapping mouse"
The German word for the "flying fox" bat is literally "flying dog"
Weirder yet, it's closer to "flight dog"
The French word for bat means literally "bald mouse"
Bats can get through very small holes and cracks (this is a very popular thing to know)
Bat wings tear easily
Bats can live very long (over 20 years) and reproduce very slowly (one offspring per year)
Bats will leave if you give them a way out
Bats have very small teeth and you might get bitten by them and not know it
Bats can carry rabies
Bat poop is unhealthy
Some bats are really big
BATS AREN'T BUGS
Bats are delicate and cute
Some bats eat insects. Some are thought to even eat birds!
Bats have their own conservation organization
Some bats migrate, even though they can't detect topography more than a few meters in front of them
Bats make tequila possible
Bats are a protected species in Britain
