Physics Homework Help, Best answer will be given.?
In the Netherlands a dike, holding back the sea from a town below sea level, springs a leak 3.8 m below the water surface. If the area of the hole in the dike is 1.2 cm2, what force must the Dutch boy exert to save the town? (For the density of sea water use the value 1025 kg/m3.)

Have tried a few things but none worked, please help!

Hey, thanks for the answer, I had acutally tried 458 instead of 4.58, but it worked. It's not allowing me to select the best answer though? any thoughts on why that is, I will keep trying b/c you deserve it. Thanks

Force equal to pressure times area
F=P A

Pressure = gph
g - acceleration due to gravity
p - density of the liquid
h - its column height

So
F= g p h A
F=9.8 x 1025 x 3.8 x 1.2 E-4=4.58 N
