I have a male and a female Molly in my 10 gallon tank and i think the female is pregnant. I would like the babies to survive to raise them. Do the mollies eat their young?

Yes. To try to save some of the young, get some more females(this will keep the male busy), then get a couple or even 3 bunches of inexpensive "bunch" plants,(to provide hiding places for the little guys). Some of them will survive.
Don't use breeding traps or try to move the female when she nears her "time",this will only stress her, and you will lose the female and the fry.

It is quite possible. Not every fish eats their young, but some do. I have had many mollies that did not eat their young. I do provide plants like water sprite and duckweed, groups of caboma and such so the fry have places that they can get away from the adults. As readilly as mollies breed, it isn't always a bad thing to loose a few to parental consumption. ;)

yes, mollies will eat their young.
you should either get densely leafed plants that fry can hide in or a breeders net. A breeders net is a box which hangs inside the tank, i recommend that you get one of the hard bodied ones because you can leave the mother fish in the box,it allows the fry a safety zone (away from it's mother).
also if you get a hard one it can be re-used as an isolation area for problematic/sick fish.
if you choose to get one of the cheaper soft ones, you cannot leave the mother in and must catch the fry within the tank (which can be very challenging).
If you choose to let the fry hide wherever they can (no breeders net), the weak deformed ones will be eaten and you will be left with only two or three strong surviving fry.

they sure will, just like a guppy will, when i was raising mollies i kept a breeder net that hangs over the side of the tank and you put the female in it when she looks like she is close to birth...watch her pretty close and when she has the babies take her out of there and put her back in the tank, then leave the babies in the breeder net until they are big enough to survive on their own and not be eaten. you can get the net at wal mart or any pet store for 3-4 dollars usually.

most do. if i were you i would get a breeder's net to put in the tank(i use one for my guppy fry and it works great) or if you're up to it, buy a separate ten gallon tank. when the mother looks really pregnant, put her in there until she finishes having all of the fry. once she's done, move her back into the normal tank. then just keep the fry in a separate tank until they're big enough to not be eaten.

Yes, any fish will eat their young. And other fish will eat the young to. They are small and weak and can't defend themselves so they get eated. its the circle of life. when i hade a guppy that had babys my catfish ate the little guppies. same with the mom, she ate her own young too.
