In the U.S. we name our large numbers by where the commas occur. e.g., A thousand thousand (1,000,000) is a million, a thousand million (1,000,000,000) is a billion, a thousand billion (1,000,000,000,000) is a trillion. In the UK, they tend to denote the breaks by when they double-up the big quantities e.g., a thousand thousand is, like in the US, a million, but to get to a billion you have to have a million million, and then a trillion is a billion billion)
