I am a senior and I think Susie Q and Cherry p1 are quite right. I am fed up with the stupid jokes on here I want to talk about something
intelligent. I have had a boil on my foot for 6 months and the doctor is hopeless at trying to fix it. That is the things seniors should talk about, intelligent things. Well said Susie Q and Cherry P1.

Jim K . Someone who actually understood what I was trying to say. I wasn't saying I didn't enjoy the jokes but, like you, I would like to try and give an intelligent answer other than Lol! or Ha! Ha! As for Mrs. Badgrumbles saying I was grumpy? With a name like that it's like the pot calling the kettle black!
I am not quite sure about your boil though. Although I sympathise greatly, Maybe you should try the health section.
I don't actually have any advice to give you.
Thanks for your vote of confidence anyway. Hope your foot is better soon.

Ok, with my vast experience at alternative health (such as it is), I will tell you what I think is the problem. If this was a true boil, it would have come to a head, or at least had a white sore spot that you could puncture and let out the pus.
If this boil is on the bottom of
your foot, my suspicion is that
you have stepped on something and it has worked
its way high up into your flesh. So how to get it out. Every night before bed, soak it in some warm water ( as warm as you can stand) and about 1/2Cup epsom salts. Just let it soak until the water cools down and dry off. Gently work the area of the boil and try to feel something in there.
If it's close to the skin, just
cauterize a needle and stick it
straight in to the spot. No more than 1/8". You just might get some drainage. If
you do, you're on the right track. Do this every night for at least 2 weeks. I think you
will see some changes.
There is also a soak called
"Johnson's Foot Soak" which
will also draw out impurities.
The only other solution if
none of this works, is to get
a foot x-ray and see what's in there. Also, if your Dr. does
nothing for you in 6 months,
please go to someone else.
There are various soaks that
have strong "drawing" power,
but I don't know their names.
Go over to "alternative health" and ask some questions.

Jim, did the Dr call it a boil or are you calling it a boil.

For 14 years I had what they/medical profession called an ulcer.

I learned to do the impossible, with 14 years of wrapping my big toe and keeping the bandage to stay secure. I made Johnson & Johnson rich, buying gauze, neosporine and tape.

After having blood poisen and being in and out of the hospital on IV'S with four different antibiotics running through my veins for 12 of those years, they finally diagnosed me as a diabetic.

At one point, they were mentally preparing me, to amputate my toe.

In all I had 4 different foot Dr's and two regular Dr's.

My last Dr. ordered a prescription called Regrainex. The cost was 496.00 dollars a tube. It is made to build flesh and begins to fill in the hole that is called an ulcer.

It took two years and being on a strict diabetic diet to heal. Thank God, I didn't lose my toe.

I was almost to the point of feeling it would be better than wrapping my toe twice to three times a day.

I have very poor circulation in my legs and had a callous on my toe that became infected and that was what created the ulcer in the first place.

They would check me for being a diabetic everytime I was in the hospital but they did the check when I had the blood poisen and had been throwing up for 2 or 3 days and had not eaten for that period of time. The test always came back negative.

Finally, the last Dr. had me tested when I was free of the blood poisen and it came back positive and he believes that I was a diabetic all along but was just tested at the wrong time.

I know this explanation is lenghty but I thought maybe by some slim chance you are being miss diagnosed.

I have never heard of a boil on the toe.

Get another opinion.

Maybe more than 1 type of antibiotic is required to kill the bacteria.

Hope this helps to think out some options to discuss with your present Dr.

Sometimes seniors know their body better than the Dr. does. And this statement came from my own Dr.

Boils hmmm This is your "intelligent" subject?
I think most of us are laughing and making jokes about it because how far and deep can we all get into debating or dicussing a boil?
I am new to the senior thing and I hope getting up in age doesn't "boil" down to thinking a boil on my foot is a subject for an intelligent conversation. Lighten up a bit and put a hot tea bag on that boil and stop fussin with it and the people that want to LAUGH and make others LAUGH. We all only live once.

Dear Jim, I've been away for 3 weeks, and obviously missed the gist of what you are talking about here. But....on the subject of your toe, if you have had something on your toe for 6 months, and your doctor is hopeless, get another doctor. If indeed it is a boil, all you need is a course of antibiotics and it will be fine. If not, go and see a podiatrist, it may be a bunion which is a really horrible and painful thing and he/she could help you with it. In any case, good luck with the toe.

If you're sure it's a boil (and even if not) yes boils ARE important and can become the center of ones attention. Years ago I had a corpsman lance one for me and couldn't believe the relief. Suggest you get to a doc for professional care instead of the seniors section for first aid. But the time these characters are done with you, you'll be drinkin dragon nail tea and beastie noodle soup for the soul.

Personally though, lighten up and Live :0)

Boils are very important especially when you are the one suffering the pain.

who appointed you captain of what should be discussed in seniors. Some criticize reminiscing about the past, others about talking about grandchildren instead of our selves and our age groups problems, chatting, questions not being important enough or true to the category..sorry but some of us enjoy posting and reading humorous things here as we do not always go to jokes and riddles. I hope you've noticed imagination has already been squashed here how much more censorship do you think we need. I'm hoping not much.

I don't know why I'm sharing this, because usually I'm very private in certain things, but I will. Let's talk about Cellulitis. It's an infection of the skin and underlying tissues that can affect any area of the body. It causes inflammation, pain, swelling, warmth, and redness. In my case, my leg felt like it was on fire the majority of the time.

I could barely walk and it it hadn't been for my husband are one of my daughter's that lives at home, I wouldn't haven't even been able to walk seven feet to the bathroom. I had it on my left leg for almost four months and it was so bad I couldn't even sit at the computer. Now that I'm over it, it's left scars that look like I've been burned on that leg.

Still my biggest hurt was, it meant I couldn't talk to my on-line friends. Yeah it was rough. But I hung on, cause every so often, someone would call to tell me a joke and brighten my day. I needed that, cause all I could do was cry, because I felt like I was going to loose my leg. But they along with my family, kept up my spirits with their jokes and funny stories.

Okay. I'm almost done, except for one more thing. I truly hope you get well, so you are able to laugh again with your friends.

I said my piece. I'm done now.

Oh yes I have been waiting all year to talk about your boil on your foot. Did I tell you about the time I went to Workington it was amazing they had houses down each side of the street and each house had chimney but no smoke came out of the pot because all the houses had gas fires or central heating and on the way back from Workington I counted ten green balloons but only four red ones why was that I am going now to make a cup of tea get my drift..
