I come from a Christian family. In my house we have never celebrated Halloween. Every Halloween, we keep all the lights off, so no one will come to our house.

I've been raised to never EVEr go to any sort of party on Halloween.

I've always wanted to dress up with a costume, but people only do costume parties on Halloween.

How will I ever get to go to a costume party that's not because of Halloween ?

It is very common to have costume/masquerade New Years Eve parties.

Yes people usually only do parties for Halloween but I know I'd enjoy getting another opportunity to wear my costumes. Throw a party like that--I bet people would love it.

However there are many organizations that dress up. Re-enactment groups. Civil War reenactment, Renaissance groups like SCA, LARP or Renaissance Faires. I'm going to a Renaissance Faire this weekend.

You could also get a job where you can dress up. Old Time Photos allowed me to dress up like a Southern Belle and walk around in marketing. Some old houses like the Astor house dress up in the time period. They do in Williamsburg VA and in Salem MA. Also Medieval Times and Dixie Stampede. Those are cool b/c you get to dress up and still get paid for it!

They also have conventions for a favorite TV show. Trekkies do it the most. But DragonCon is a convention a friend is going to. Stargate has them too. Some online games have them too--Monarchy I know does. You dress as your character and have the opportunity to meet people you've talked to online.

You could try cos-play at comic or gaming conventions, or throw a "costumed new years eve ball" have a costume themed birthday party such as "Dr Suess" or "pirates Vs ninja's" or a princess party, or what ever costume you wish to adorn. If you throw the party you can decide the theme.

Throw a theme party! I've been to a ton of Golf Pros/Tennis Ho's parties.... being a devout Christian you certianly don't have to title your party that, but you can do a "sports theme" or a "90's" theme. Super Hero parties bring out some creative ideas. Then you get to dress up, it doesn't have to associated with anything "non-Christian" and you can still be silly and have fun in costume.

Have fun!

If you feel that strongly about it, throw a costume party in the middle of summer ( or whatever season floats your boat). The halloween theme won't be there and you'll be able to wear a costume.

You don't celebrate it because you're Christian, you don't celebrate it because you're an ignorant moron. Try looking up All Saints Day. Churches have Halloween parties - because Halloween is NOT evil! So try educating yourself, learn that there is NOTHING wrong with Halloween, and go to a party.
