Don't trust any company till you are convinced on your own.
Take the help from many sources.

In stock world there are many big names like http://www.sogoinvest.com who are offering $3-$1 per trade.

Do not get confused, take the help of stock broker which suits you. See below for tutorials on investing:

Listening to friends is generally not good advice. You need to educate yourself first and then listen to your friends and decide if their advice is good or not.

Go to your library and pick up some basic books on finance and investing. People like Jane Bryant Quinn, Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, David Bach are a few well known people. Educate yourself.

There are 2 pieces of advice I give people about money. One is "No one cares more about your money than you do." You can get all the advice in the world from the finest professionals, but no one is going to care more about your money than you. The second piece of advice I give is "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

Be careful with this advice from your friend - if you decide to take it you guys may not be friends much longer.

oh, one more thing...try Googling "tahitian noni scam"...this guy is not your friend

I have never heard of it. It could very well be a fraud (you know, a type of pyramid scheme) but I don't know. I took a small class on investing and that helped me a lot. Consider talking to someone at your bank or find a small broker who can help you out. They can tell you what investments would be the best.

First rule of investing, is 'don't invest in anything you don't understand'.

Do a google search, and see what you can find out. But it sounds like your buddy is a tahitian noni rep, and he is helping himself, and NOT YOU.
