Why is the Super Bowl always played 2 weeks after the conference games?? For example, the last two conference games were played on January 21. But the Super Bowl was played on February 4, instead of January 28. Why does the NFL do this??

It's not always that way. There have been 6 Super Bowls that were played with only one week between the conference games and the Super Bowl itself, including back-to-back in 2002 and 2003.

There are a couple of major reasons why they allow two weeks. The first is to ensure that the teams are well-rested, especially with regards to nagging injuries. The second is that it's the most-watched sports event in North America, so they want the two weeks for the extra hype.

The players don't really need the rest. I think that they'd rather play the next week. It's all about the media and building hype. This is just one of those situations where, good or bad, everybody's got to get paid.

I think the main reason is to give the teams time to rest, and heal up. But I am also sure that advertising and hype has a lot to do with it, too.

It gives the players time to get to practice and talk to the media, its required that all personal talk to the media when asked ; and its all about hyping up the biggest game is sports.

That's how long it takes for the hype machine to warm up.
