I know this may sound strange, but I think they should be punished more for animal abuse. Spouses can leave any chance they get and go somewhere, to a shelter or wherever. Pets, cant even tell anybody, and they're stuck in this home unless someone else notices how they're being treated. I hate some people so much.

I agree with what has been said by people before me.
Animals have less control over things in their life than people do.
I've heard a lot of stories where people go out and murder a whole bunch of people.. you know where they started inflicting pain? Usually, on animals. Not always but enough times that people should have realised there's a problem. If they enjoy watching animals suffer then why not people aswell? Eventually they might get bored with hurting animals and move onto people.
Animal cruelty laws need to be tougher. If you murder an animal.. what happens to you? You go to jail for a few months at most? And, what happens if you murder a person?
How can we say the lives of animals are not worth as much as a persons? They still breathe and feel.

The best thing to do if you see first hand when someone is abusing animals is to report it so they can no longer have animals. You obviously cannot save every animal on the planet but yes morally those people should be punished just as harshly for mistreating pets as they would for children or adults. Pets in my eyes are just like children and to some it is there only way to feel as though they have children, so people need to realize animals feel how we feel and scar as we scar. People should report animal abuse immediately!

I love animals, but right now in our society, an animal does not equal a human being. I don't know how to phrase it any other way. If someone shoots their spouse in the head, they are going to serve more jail time than a person who shoots an animal in the head. I'm a vegetarian, but I also know a society starts running into trouble if humans = animals. (In India, cows and rats are sacred, yet they interfere with everyday life... such as cows blocking traffic and rats spreading disease.) That being said, we still do not punish animal abusers enough. Someone who can ignore a dog slowly getting skinny over time or, worse yet, does something like fight dogs, needs to be punished and needs to receive psychological help, because they probably lack empathy for other human beings too.

Be real careful how ya'll answer this one. We are all animal abusers if you really look at it. Do you think that Burger is not an animal? Folks seem to think it is over with quick for the critters we eat. There are a lot that suffer. Also, They may be animals, but you are stupid if you think they dont know whats going on while they are all lined up going in to a slaughter house. They smell blood and know. Doubt it? Go listen to some cows out in their field, then go listen to them while they are in that line.
It will make you realize that every time you sink your teeth into that juicy burger, that you have helped abuse an animal too.
By the way, cats are delicious!

"Companion animals become members of our families, they experience both the joy and pain of belonging. In a healthy family they experience the joy -- in a dysfunctional family they share in the pain and abuse. Animal cruelty is an indicator of serious problems in a family. The youth that tortures cats or dogs, may in fact, grow up to harm or kill humans. The parent who abuses the family pet may also be abusing the children, or spouse! The child who hurts an animal may already be a victim of, or a witness to family violence.
VIOLENCE BEGINS AT HOME!
One pet at a time we can all make a difference!
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
can be judged by the way it's animals are treated"(Ghandi)
Anyone who has accustomed himself to regard the life of any
living creature as worthless is in danger of arriving
also at the idea of worthless human lives!.

I agree 100% with the girl who said it should be punished more severly. Animals are helpless and have no voice or power to fight back (physically or legaly). Whenever I see those shows on t.v. and the people don't even get punished that much for what they do I think they should do to those people what they do to their animals.

I'm am an animal lover, and I am in vet school. But humans do have more rights than animals. I do think animal abusers need to be severly punished, and shouldn't be allowed to ohave ANY pets. However, there is a difference in humans.

I agree and I am in the ASPCA.....the American Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. It breaks my heart to see animals suffer.
