Yes, I've heard a recording of myself and thought, "You sound like a country hick with that twangy voice." No wonder people always recognize my voice on the phone.
Let me know what day you will be on the Jerry Springer Show! LOL

I can't stand to listen to my voice on a tape recorder. It sounds like I talk through my nose with a bit of a southern accent. The worst is when you call some place on the phone and reach those automated recordings that want you to say numbers or why you're calling. They never understand me. lol

I've heard my voice on a recorder several times and couldn't
identify myself out of a group or even alone. I wonder what the
scientific explanation is for that? I actually thought my voice
sounded better than the way I hear myself when talking. I
sound deeper when I hear myself talk. But on a recording I
have a younger sounding voice. So I don't have anything to
criticize when I hear a recording of me.

I really hope that I don't sound like I do on recordings! High pitched -- ouch! I listened to some recordings that my dad made many years ago when his father and aunt were visiting us. They are from the south - Arkansas - and I had such a hard time understanding those tapes. Such a different lingo!

I don't like the way my voice sounds, when I was teaching Linedancing I used a Mic to be heard over the music. The lessons were often filmed, and I was always conscious of how I sounded.

When I am on the phone, women tell me I have a sexy voice. When I hear my own voice, it sounds like a bunch of rocks being thrown around in a tin can. I wonder who these women are listening to?

It's true. When we speak, we hear ourselves from our inner ear so we are surprised with the tape recording because that's how others hear us. I too sound like a southern lady.

Could be! I have a high pitched voice like a child's. I have tried to talk in a lower tone but if I forget, it pops out like a boy going through puberty!
I have used it to my advantage when a telemarketer calls and asks to speak to my mommy!
lol
