If he died when you were a minor you could have collected survivor benefits. You need to contact your local ssi office.

Not sure if you can get back pay though.

Your parent/guardian should have been collecting SSI income on your behalf, yes. Unless, for some reason, your father did not qualify (like he didn't work or he wasn't a U.S. citizen). However, I think even if he had never worked you would still be able to get a small amount. The thing is, your guardian would have had to put in for it...They don't go volunteering the money. If you are under 18 I am fairly positive that you would be able to get it retroactively. If you are older, I am not sure but think there is still a chance. I think the best advice is to go into your local SSI office, wait in line, and talk face to face with some one.

Best of luck.

I know my father died when I was young and I did receive benefits but they came to my mother (because I was a minor) maybe your mom was getting them. The other answers are right in telling you to contact your Social Security Office. I don't think you could get back pay, and alot depends on your age now, I think that they pay you even if you are over 18 and in college but only for a few years ....maybe 21...but I am not certain.
