My boyfriend just put an Oscar (no idea what kind) into my tank with three goldfish, the goldfish are a small amount bigger than the Oscar. Is the Oscar going to eat my fish??

Right now it's a 50gl. I checked and one of the goldfish is an Oranda (SP?) The Oranda is chasing him around and he's running. Boyfriend said this is temporary but I don't want my gold fish being eaten:(

I told him he needed to get everything set up first. I've had my goldfish since they were itty bitty and the smallest is almost as long as my hand. He said no, the goldfish will prolly eat him.

PeeTee, I've thought about it. I like the Oscar he's kinda pretty but my boyfriend also claims my dog is psycho and un-trainable. I'll end up keeping the fish indefinably not so sure about boyfriend lol.

he will often attack them.. which removes scales and they can get sick and die.
Overall, the oscar will eat them when large enough,.
What tank size is this, oscars need about 75 gallons per adult. They will reach about 15-16 inches.

Goldfish & Oscars in the same tank?? Not a good mix I'm afraid - sounds like your bf doesn't have your fish's interests in mind!
Our Oscar is about 12 inches long & will try & eat anything he can get in his mouth so whilst your Oscar may be small at the moment, i don't think your goldfish will do well in the long term! You need to get a nice spacious tank for your Oscar (minimum of 55 gallons) as he will need the space...

For one Oscar and three goldfish, you should have at least a 100 gallon tank, and this is just one reason why you cannot keep these two types of fish together. Your 50 gallon tank is just right for your three goldies, but no more fish, and especially an Oscar. There are also temperature issues and aggressiveness issues. Goldfish are coldwater fish. Oscars are tropical fish. Also, Oscars, literally, eat goldfish for lunch. For a day maybe two, you can keep these fish together. Boyfriend put the cart before the horse. You should always, always get the tank first, set it up and get the water cycled before ever, ever getting fish. Get that Oscar its own 75 gallon tank, ASAP.

I would say yes.... With Oscars you have to Be sure that the fish you are introduction is the same size as the current Oscar and that the maximum size is close to that of the Oscar. They are very territorial and will either eat the fish if it's too small, or get beat up and harasses by it's larger tank mate, since all South American cichlids are aggressive and territorial.
Oscars eat goldfish especially if they are small.

Oscars are very greedy and will eat anything that can fit in their mouth. It is important that you give them a variety of food to help them maintain a variety in their diet. Oscars eat live fish and it is quite safe to feed them small goldfish feeders every once in a while. However, be very cautious of always feeding them goldfish from the pet store. Feeders from a pet store are usually crammed in one tank. As a result, some of them may carry parasites that can be harmful to your pet(s). Live crickets are also available at the pet store and are much safer than goldfish feeders. Also, try feeding your Oscars cichlid pellets and flakes (also available at the Pet Store) to mix up their diet.
Tank mates for your Oscars
Generally, Oscars are very and calm fish. However, they are very territorial and are known to be aggresive at times. It is not wise to put any fish in the aquarium that is smaller than your Oscar. This will result in the Oscars either killing or eating the smaller fish. Larger and much more agressive cichlids may be of harm to your Oscars. I reccomend that you only put fish in the tank that is of the same size as your Oscars.

Oscars are a type of cichlid and most cichlids tend to be semi-aggressive or aggressive. I'd seperate the fish, for the oscar WILL eat the goldfish when larger.

eventually it will, you should probably return it to the store because oscars get to about 10 inches. You need at least 75 gallons and 4x filtration to properly care of an O.
