I've heard from some that Rowling only said that Dumbledore was gay to get media attention. At first, I brushed this aside. I thought it was possible but I dismissed it. Now she comes up with this book that only has 7 copies and is made with semi-precious gems and metals. Oh please, I know one is going to charity but still. Is this another attempt to stay in the spotlight? And you know a short time from now she's going to come out with a "public" version. Its like she's waving some treat in front of her readers that seems unattainable then after she's done amusing herself she'll give them what they want. Also, there's that whole law suit thing. I'm kind of getting sick of this. I like the books but my respect for the writer is flagging. What are your thoughts?

I kind of agree with you actually. When DH came out I was expecting pretty much everything to be resolved, but I was extremely disappointed!

Throughout the series she has ben bombarded with questions about what will be in the next book - everyone wanted a hint, however small, about what would happen to their favourite character. I think she's just got to like being the centre of attention too much.

I think The Tales of Beedle The Bard are a good idea actually, but I think the lawsuit is utterly ridiculous. Its nice that she wants to earn lots of money for charity, but I'm with the lexicon on this one.

I used to be such a great Harry Potter and JK Rowling fan, but now I'm not so sure. But I don't see how she can think her fans will stick by her if she attacks one of her biggest fans just because he wanted to provide other fans with an unofficial encyclopedia dedicated to JKR.

Yes, Dumbledore is gay, but she didn't say that to stay in the spotlight. She was at a reading and was taking questions from children and one asked, "Did Dumbledore ever find love?" This would be difficult to answer without telling people he's gay. You're probably thinking she made it up there for the limelight, but if you were a writer, you'd know that you wouldn't want to change a character just to fit society's views and stay hidden. Dumbledore is Dumbledore, and Dumbledore is gay. That's just his character.

As for the book: It's for the people who have helped her throughout the years while writing these books (and one for charity, but isn't that a good cause?). It's only seven, and she has the money to spare to make them valuable. She said herself, "Something store bought wasn't enough, it had to mean more." And Maybe there will be a public version, and maybe not (I doubt it though. What's the point of publishing only seven now if you'll eventually go global with it. She's not the kind of person who would do that.) She just wanted to do something special to thank her family/friends.

The lawsuit is a serious thing. First off, it was copyright infringment, which as I hope we all know, is illegal. Not only that, but Rowling has said before the last book was even out that she's be doing her own Harry Potter Encyclopedia, and therefore the fan site should not have tried to publish one. I know they were just showing their love and devotion for the series, but they still should have at least consulted her in some way.

I know the hype can be annoying, but don't take everything you see as a grab for atention. She doesn't need it at all. In fact, she probably wants to stay out of the light for the time being so that she can spend time with her family. She has kids she needs to take care of, and paparatzi never help the situation (As we've seen with Britney Spears)

Actually, I watched a video clip of Jo at some kind of press conference a little while after she announced dumbledore was gay. She really didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal. She seemed really shocked that the issue was getting so much attention, so my guess is that she really did not do it for publicity. And I think the lawsuit is understandable. Lexicon tried to publish something using her work without her permission. Either they didn't ask her, or she said no and they did it anyway, so either way shes in the right here. The point is, they should have gotten her permission before doing this. The writer is going to make a profit off of HER work. Maybe she doesn't think it's fair to everyone else...I mean, anyone could put together something like that and make a huge profit from it. The creator of the story should be the one to release things like that.

Well.... I don't really no that much about J.K Rowling but.... this is what i got for u. Yes, Dumbledore is gay, but she didn't say that to stay in the spotlight. She was at a reading and was taking questions from children and one asked, "Did Dumbledore ever find love?" This would be difficult to answer without telling people he's gay.

You have to tell the truth sometimes..... but if he told the kids thatttt well she is uhhh weird.

J.K Rowling already is famous and stuff.. But i don't think she would tell me he is gay just because she is famous. She has all these books and now she is going to wash them away. I don't think so....

It was a great question and stuff..... but think to yourself would she do that to become a GREAT person.... NNOOO!!!!!!!!!
everybody goes on Yahoo Answers to answer questions? Some people answer the question they think they would get 10 points. And that is why im answering this question.

Im not begging or anything buttt cann u pllleeesseee answer me the best question... I only have like 6 best answer so pleaseee..
Thanks and Great Question...!!..

Alright now, not to be mean, but seriously THINK....
Do you really believe that Jo Rowling needs anymore publicity? NO, her books are sooo famous - and she doesn't do all this for publicity - she does it for her fans and of course for charity. She is also writing a Harry Potter Encyclopedia of everything mentioned in the books. Guess where the proceeeds are going? Charity. Also, when J.K.R. even said Dumbledore was gay, it was when someone had asked a question about him. I mean, I know she wouldn't do it to 'stay in the spotlight'. She already has one, she's great, and she's not that kind of person. And come on She WROTE HARRY POTTER - EVERYONE has heard of it!!!
Thank You for the question.

You have hit the nail on the head!!!!!

Thank you for getting it.

Because the HP spotlight had dimmed, what better way to brighten the light than by outing the beloved headmaster of Hogwarts.

Then, after J. K. Rowling got the people talking about HP again, like you said, she then comes out and say, "Oh, by the way, I'll be auctioning off one of my rare seven books for charity."

You are so right. She is playing her fans and the hardcore fans can't see it.

Please people, WAKE UP. Stop letting J. K. Rowling have a good laugh at your expense.

I am a bit bemused at some of the things that others have said about it, and JKR's alleged motivations.

I don't think that JKR has an agenda, or is seeking more publicity. I think it speaks to the popularity of the series and the amount of emotional energy that fans have put into the books, that it became a big story.

According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done. and in any case, this story came out because she was directly asked if Dumbledore loved anyone.

Throughout the series, we know Dumbledore as a tireless and seemingly single-minded fighter against Dark Wizards (at least from Harry's perspective; we do have to remember that Albus is also a great teacher, an alchemist, and important theoretical Wizard--remember the tools and instruments he made himself). But how did Albus become that way?

We learn much about this in DH, with Arianna's story, Aberforth's story and the story of the friendship between Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. In reading DH, it was clear that Grindelwald seduced Dumbledore on a number of levels; intellectually, ideologically, and, by JKR's new revelation, emotionally. We don't know if that seduction was sexual as well, and I'm not sure it is important for us to know.

The revelation completes the picture for us of a man who felt betrayed, injured by one he loved, ashamed at how far he went from rational thought and behavior, how far he really was from what he thought he was.

The up shot is that we now know more completely Dumbledore's motivations for fighting Dark Wizards--his shame at his own tangential contribution to Grindelwald's career, his reluctance to fight him, and, when Voldemort rose, his determination to not to repeat his prior mistake of inaction and to fight Voldemort from the start.

So in summery, It was part of the way JKR viewed Dumbledore and understood him. I don't think it was something that would have come out voluntarily--more likely something that would have made a scholarly article 50 or 60 years from now after she was gone and literary scholar had access to her full notes (assuming she left them to be investigated).

As far as her doing this book for charity--don't you think it is strange to some people slam her for this? I think that it is not a problem of something wrong on the part of JKR as it is jealousy for her success and the freedom of action it has given her.

J.K. Rowling rocks, but I don't think she should have made Dumbledore gay because it upset a lot of her fans (I still can't decide if I'm okay with it). I don't think she did it for the publicity, though. I think she really made him that way from the beginning. I think it's really cool that she wrote that book, and even cooler that she is auctioning it for charity. I can't wait to buy it when she releases it to the public !

I think that J.K Rowling shouldn't have said anything no matter what anyone asked. And it only made it worse because Dumbledore was such a great character and everyone loved him.
She shouldn't have said after everything was finished. Well she shouldn't have said at all.

Well, I mean with all the money she's made already she is set for life. I can't see why she'd want to be in the spotlight for the sake of money since she already has a zillion billion dollars from Harry Potter.
