All of the above were used in World War One. All but the airplane had been tried (in one form or another) prior to WW I.

Aerial spotting had been used as as far back as the 1860's, via tethered balloons, to adjust artillery fire, and keep track of enemy unit movements.

Actually, U-boats weren't new either. A crude submarine was tried during the American Revolution, and the C.S.S. Hunley was a Confederate submarine that actually managed to sink a northern ship. However, you can argue none of these were true submarines, since they weren't capable of extended underwater operations. They travelled on the surface until they came close to the target and barely went under water to sneak up on the target.
