Moly was associated with Apollo and was said to confer either longevity or eternal life on the eater. It was described as having a black root. The golden apples that Melanion used to catch Atalanta are also mysterious - might they have been peaches, which the Chinese celebrate as conferring eternal life on the eater? Any ideas?

myths. just as ambrosia and nectar.

they could have been, tho, symbols of ways of getting knowledge. but i doubt it was knowledge of how to live forever. (In Homer's Odyssey, Hermes gave this herb, moly, to Odysseus to protect him from Circe's incantation. It can be plucked only by celestial hands.)
