My solution is to allow our military to use whatever methods of "coercion" were used by the US in WWII. FDR wasn't a war criminal, was he?

What do you think?

Excellent point that will be lost on those with extremely limited historical knowledge and even more limited world views

Amen. FISA has provisions in it for foreign threats. Yet all these lobbyist fighting over language as they puff the political feather's.

Do you think people thought we used Tickle me Elmo to cackle the information out of them?? Imagine if they saw real torture. That Clooney film Syrianna? 24? As they watch reality TV where they eat worms? Oh well. I guess ignorance is bliss.

I agree with your solution. That will teach um!

edit: I am a McCain supporter. His claim is that "America must take the moral high ground". ABC This Week Sunday last. Somewhere in there is the language. Because as we have seen our troops have taken some measures beyond regulations. Exceptions? He is questioning the water boarding definition I believe to prevent expansions on the
term... I hope that makes sense. He's a POW survivor. He would know.

good idea..but as other have said way too simple/or "common sense.
This whole flack about "torture" is simple deflection, delay stall tactics..passionate response/reactions to "x" always works..
The reality that NO ONE states --> Torture is a subjective
term!! As a noun ..it describes pain discomfort..verb to cause pain discomfort....Yes,the reason-->to obtain something/information.
.. heavy metal music is torture 4 some, parents are subjected to the tortures of tots whose screams can pierce eardrums when their inane cartoons are switched off,or the candy not purchased at the checkout....tickling is a form of torture to some....etc.
..The POINT IS simply,--->>that ALL
humans are innovative, ingenious beings that chose ways to succeed/survive.
..There will never be an exhaustive list of every conceivable torture!!
Humans are hardwired to protect themselves and their next generation so use of pain full coercion /"torture"
will ALWAYS be an "option" --Used or shunned

believe me, they are already doin whatever they want to do in those foreign prisons!!!

we are just back here huffin and puffin to put it down on paper to authorize it as "legal" to do this or that!!!

and when they get caught in a corner to answere straight up they do like Clinton did, define water-boarding, define torture!!!

so all these egghead lawyers go back to the books to actually tell us the definitions and decide who is frigging right!!!

our country has become one big pile of litigation, ang we are ruled by corporate lawyers, even our military!!!

cant fight a war using rules that the other side doesn't use. like it says dont be the first to hit but if you get hit except it. if you get hit again then hit them twice as hard as they hit you. if they torture then you torture, but dont be the first. Even Ali would not have been a champion if he had to wear gloves but his opponet didn't. think about it.

If I had before me a terrorist who had knowledge of an attack that could kill Americans and he refused to talk about it, I would look to my aid and say hand me the blow torch buddy, Ali is about to start singing.
