It is odd, isn't it? I star things that I find interesting, so asking me to star your question does nothing unless I found it interesting. Stars also allow you to come back later and see how others answered. Big whoop.

It's just like giving them a pat on the back. It only has as much meaning as you feel it does, and that's going to vary from user to user. Also, as the poster above me said, it helps bring the question to the attention of your contacts.

If I see a question that I think my contacts will like, I'll give it a start and it will pop up on their screen when they log in.

I really don't care to be honest. I never really star any questions.

all that it would do is allow the contacts of the person(s) who starred see the question on their profile page.

All it does is show their friends that they starred it.

not to my knowledge, I think it makes them feel better about themselves and maybe they hope their question will get so many stars it will be one of those questions that pops up when you first log into answers..ya know what I am talking about..ya you do.....anyways.....I figure that's why.
