I know what you're thinking. Bush has issued an 'executive order' allowing him to take control of the entire government in case of an 'emergency', and of course he's the one who gets to decide what constitutes an 'emergency'. I don't think it's constitutional for a president to simply decide he can cancel the power of Congress and the Supreme Court, but it's the Supreme Court's job to decide, and then only if he tries to do it and is challenged by Congress. And the Supreme Court is stuffed with neo-cons, 6 of the 9 justices having been picked by Reagan, Bush or his dad.
In the end, though, I don't think he would try to cancel the election. I think too many Americans would be outraged and there would be a lot of trouble. Still, it's something to worry about. These people know no shame, they really will stop at nothing!

I suspect he will go
But should an emergency occur then the "devolution of power" would come under the Homeland security's care according to executive order PD 51
Bush might ride off into the sunset but their may be an election held under martial law and then people who question the results would be in a very precarious position
Bush in particular the Bush family will go back into the unseen shadows of the power behind the Throne and the policies friendly to the current administration will continue - With a better speaker more able to appear charismatic
Just a hypothetical idea
I was thinking of writeing a book useing this plot and publishing it under proletarian fiction/horror
Would you buy it ? Or perhaps there is no room in today's market for another 1984 type book ?

Of course they will.
And they will be replaced by agents who will continue to do the will of Rich elite that manipulate and control our polices. It won't matter if it's a Democrat or a Republican.
The only two canidates that would actually represent the people, Mike Gravel or Ron Paul, won't be there.
GE has pretty much taken Mike Gravel out. Ron Paul will be driven out thru Media distortion or discredited. Anyone they cant control or drive out, will be assassinated.
Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss.

Yes, of course they will. But it's a testimony to the fact that Bush and Co. have shown so little respect for the Constitution that this question can even be conceived of by anyone.

That's a good question. When the Constitution gets in the way Bush has a nasty habit of cutting the parts out he disagrees with.

Well, Julius Caeser got away with staying and the Roman Empire continued for a long time after that. Perhaps if he's got the whole star wars thing going and he can lazer anyone he wants he might give it a shot.
In fact, there are lots of historical precendents for it - he's bound to try it if he thinks he can get away with it.

What evidence would you have to the contrary. I know you liberals are used to a President behaving above the law and rules (ie... Clinton), and used to a Pres. leaving office after trashing it for the next administration (again... Clinton). But Bush will leave proudly, with honor and dignity, and gracefully yeild to the next republican who will be President.

I don't see why not. They've adhered to the Constitution since November of 1999.
My question is; when Hillary loses, will she through a month long, nationally televised toddler tantrum just like Al Gore did? I'm thinking she won't. I'm betting it'll be worse and I just thank Gawd that there are no liberals in the military.

Of course they will. The lie that they would try and stay is something the die hard left has thrown out there as a way to drum up further discontent as well as to increase fundraising, both of which say more about their lack of character and integrity than they do about Bush or Cheney

There is nothing to suggest that the standard proceedures would not be followed. The outgoing President will depart on schedule
Of course, I doubt that the Bushs will try to steal every last stick of White House furniture on the way out like the Clintons did!
