I donate to charity all year round so to me Christmas is for children. Putting up a tree and a few small presents for my son and the other kids in the family. Spending time with family. I've overeaten so many times I can't even look at the food anymore and I don't want to socialize with a bunch of drunks so I focus on the children.

Here in the northern hemisphere, the sun has gone away (not entirely, but it's weak, and down more than up). It's dark a lot, and cold, often wet.
It's gloomy.
So people put up pretty-colored lights and sparkley things on trees, get togther, drink hot toddies, and eat rich food.
Then on the day, people get togther and exchange presents.
It's a winter festival; designed to cheer us up during the depressing part of the year.
Oh, yeah, and there's this religious thing that's mostly about peace and hope.
A nice serving of hope, in the gloomiest time of year.

I'm not going to lie; we don't celebrate Jesus or his birthday. Not that I'm against that being the whole point; it's just not how we do things n my family. We spend Christmas and the whole season volunteering at soup kitchens, Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, and we donate money and used clothing to the homeless shelters. It's a time to celebrate and share, doesn't matter what you're celebrating.

Yule. The darkest time of year, when it's time to get out and see people so that the winter isn't so dreary. Time to celebrate the fruits of another year's labors. And to get family and friends together and remember all the good times.

Luk 2:8 In the same region there were {some} shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luk 2:9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
Luk 2:10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Luk 2:11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luk 2:12 "This {will be} a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Luk 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Luk 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
