I labored 43 1/2 hours, 6 of it pushing, with irregular contractions up until my son crowned. the 6 of pushing I had a spinal and some other meds, but the rest of it was natural.

I look back on it knowing it sucked, but also realizing it wasnt anything as bad as I expected. I remember it hurting like holy flying flucks for about 30 seconds, and then it all being over.

Anyone else pleasantly suprised that it wasnt so much like death as you has expected?

I am scared to death but your question has given me some hope - why is it that women even strangers feel the need to tell pregnant women their personal hell on earth labor stories?

Since I'm still willing to go natural for this one I guess so. I was in labor for 40 hours before going into the hospital for pitocin. I had been having full scale close together contractions for hours but wasn't dialating, we finally discovered that the little bugger rolled face up. I ended up with a c-section that I'd been fighting the doctor over for 4 hours. I heard every story from his heart is slowing down (I could see it wasn't on the moniter) he has an infection and will go into intesnsive care (he was Perfectly fine) to he's over 9 lbs and my hips were too narrow (he was 8 even like the midwife and second opinion doctor predicted).

It did nothing to improve my opinions of doctors to say the least.

I thought since my mom's labors were all easy, then mine would be, boy was I wrong, I labored for 23 hrs, pushed for 4 hrs, 1 hour with the help of the vacuum, then, when that didn't work I had to have an emergency c-section. When the epidural wore off, they tried to give me more but it wasnt working, I just remember screaming, so they knocked me out, I dont remember a thing. It was a nightmare then, but now I find myself only 7 months later trying to plan when we should have the next one. Its all forgetable cuz its worth it.

I had back labour so the pain was completely different to how I expected, and I must say - much worse! I was in labour for 30 hours, for the last few hours it was like I was spasming each time I had a contraction - was writhing around so much I had to be held on the bed! Of course my daughter was worth it all, but the pain (the contractions, I didn't think the birth actually hurt at all) was horrendous!

Mine was only 14 hrs and 24 minutes (24 minutes was pushing) I had an epidural at 3cm, but they broke my water at 1cm and i was on magnesium sulfate due to preeclampsia--so i wouldnt have seizures during delivery. My sister said that it was the worst delivery she saw, but i think it was pretty good from being induced at 36 weeks and not even being thinned or dialated.

So this last delivery will more than likely make my upcoming delivery (34 wks preggo) seem like a piece of cake!!

Ha! No. #1 was 24 hours of back labour, including 4 hours of pushing ending in a forcep delivery...I do not look back on it fondly.

#2 was 5 hours including only 40 mins of pushing, but it was still as intense as he** and hurt like a son of a b*tch. My 9 lb 6 oz monster meant business, and barrelled through.

#3...not exactly looking forward to the labour and delivery...but I know I'll be fine the second he comes out.

Well i had an easy labor and delievery. There were 3 hours of pain where i just felt like i wanted to die. But i was only in labor for 9 hours and 50 mins and only have 3 pushes and she was out. So i guess i got lucky, but i went in there thinking, it wont be SOOOO bad, but looking back at those 3 hours, it sucks but its worth it.

I was in labor for 12 hours. And only 1 hour of pushing. No meds. The only bad part was the Dr had to pull the placenta out with his had. Labor was easy for me. I think it was worse for my 10 year old nephew that was waiting outside and heard my scream when the placenta came out.

My first was killer for the first 12 hrs-i was induced. then i opted for the epidural, after that i was a happy girl the rest of my labor. i wasnt annoyed by people in the room bringing food that i could not eat (but could smell) and i hadnt had anything for 12 hours!! i couldnt feel contractions, i could just SEE them on the monitor, and i dialated really fast, so fast in fact my little girl started coming out and the nurse had to ask me to NOT push while they ran around looking for my doc! which they never found and had to get a different doc, who was really cool and actually let me pull my daughter the rest of the way out.-freakin crazy but WAY cool!
With my second, i opted for the epi sooner, and things were great until they decided to progress labor with pitocin and didnt up the medicine in the epidural, so i really started to feel it up until i delivered. i thought i was goin to throw up! had to wear an oxygen mask and looked like i had a black eye when all was said and done.
But once you see that baby, once you hold them, all the pain in the world is gone.
Now we are TTC#3 and i will welcome that pain once again for the tiny miracle that will be part of my life.
Good Luck to all who are TTC and to those awaiting their little one!

I really hope that a year from now i can look back, holding my three month old saying the same thing you are!!

I'm terrified of labor.......but I just keep telling myself that women have been doing it for thousands of years, and many have gone through it multiple times, so it can't be as terrifying as I think. I hope! hahaha
