The PS2 has a bigger games library and is cheaper.
The Wii has a smaller library of games, and is a little more expencive, but it my opinion, due to its unique control scheme and little extras, it is much more fun.
It depends what you're wanting from a games console. If one of the things you wish to do is play it with friends or familly, once again, the Wii is definately the best choice; providing you can afford the extra controllers. Also, if you are into retro titles at all, the Wii comes out on top once again, thanks to its virtual console service.

Wii is a next-gen console, stronger than PS2, BUT PS2 has an amazing choice of games.

Wii, its more interactive than any other system its getting a bunch of new awesome games like super mario galaxy, super smash bros. brawl, and mario kart wii. and oh yeah its a next gen console so it'll be around longer than the PS2
