I gained over 70 pounds.
I was 103 pounds and about 5.7 feet.
But, I din't look so big. The DR guess that I would only have a 6 pound baby.
My son was 8 pounds and 23 3/4 inches.
He is 13 1/2 months now and I'm down to 103 pounds again.
If you needed to gain the weight now is your chance to do it.

I gained 60 some pounds and I ate well. I even gained 15 pounds in one month and my Dr. made me write down everthing I ate for a week. My problem was sodium intake. After I was careful about the salt my weight gain slowed down. I also drank like a gallon for h2o a day it's like I couldn't get enough of it. So I think I had a lot for water weight too. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you are not diabetic, eating out a lot, and drinking too much juiceor other drinks other then water (juice has a lot of sugar and extra calories that no one needs). Some people just gain more weight then others. And if you are thin then you should gain more weight then average. I know you said that you were 137 but you never said how tall you were.
Get out and walk every day and maybe buy a safe exersise tape that you can even use after you have the baby to help you shed the extra pounds. Also breastfeeding will help get the weight off too.

I am 26 weeks and have gained about 25lbs already, which is what I should be gaining the whole time. My Dr. hasn't said anything, so I'm not worrying until she does. If your Dr. is not telling you to slow up, then don't worry too much. Some women gain quicker than others. I have a friend who gained 100lbs and her son was perfectly fine, I do not recommend this. She still hasn't lost the weight and her son will be 7 in January.
Just try to eat right and not too much. Mini meals is always best, but I have a hard time finding the time for them during the work week. : )
good luck and ask your Dr. what they think.

It mostly depends on genetics, I weighed 100 pounds when I got pregnant and 175 pounds when I delivered, my best friend gained 10 pounds more than I did. 7 months later, I now weigh 116 pounds without even trying to lose weight, though some people have a hard time, everything was fine with the pregnancy. You may want to stay away from alot of sugar, it's like miracle grow for babies. Yes its normal, some women though have risks of high blood pressure so be sure to let your doctor know of your concerns.

I gained about 50 with my first but I was on complete bedrest from 3 months until I delivered her at 35 weeks. I was a big fat cow towards the end! I would try to limit your weight gain though because it sucks trying to lose it. I ended up losing 30 lbs within 3 months of giving birth but my daughter is now 2 and I am still struggling with those last 20 lbs. Good luck!

With my first son I gained a whopping 90lbs! I was pretty underweight though, I am 5ft 9in and weighed 129 and by the time I gave birth I was 219.
It was NOT hard to lose at all! I lost 50 pounds in 5 weeks and then the last 40 by the time my son was 6 months old.
I am now pregnant again and I am trying not to gain as much this time so I can lose all my weight by the time the baby is 3 months old.
If you breastfeed the fat just melts off, at least it did for me and a few of my friends.
I recommend breast feeding, its a wonderful way to bond with your baby, its so much better for baby then formula, and you can get your pre-pregnancy body back much faster.
Of course you will need to exercise to as with any weight loss program.
Just think positive and believe in yourself and you will get the pounds off.
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy

I gained 80 pounds when I was pregnant with my daughter. The doctors didn't say anything to me about it... but it may have been because I had just finished going through Initial Entry Training with the Army and I weighed in at 135 with is small for my 5 ft. 5 in. frame... I normally weigh around 150. I didn't have any problem losing the weight, I lost 40 the day I had her.
Oh, BTW, she weighed 7 lbs at birth.

I gained 44 and was told I gained too much in my post visit. I did not loose all of it until a few years later when I stopped using the baby as an excuse and joined a weight loss program.
Everyone is different though. I hope you have no problem taking it ALL off.
Good Luck

*sigh* I was so worried about myself last time and this time.. but I guess I cant help it and none of the doctors said anything about it and they said I was healthy and my daughter is healthy and my son is healthy thus far.
I started out at 122lbs when I got pregnant with my daughter and the day before I had her, I weighed 197lbs.. so yea....I gained 75 lbs. This time when I got pregnant with my son.. I got back down to about 135lbs and now I weigh 190lbs.. I am 34 weeks now, so I got 6 weeks left.. I didn't gain as much with this one,but it is still quite a bit to me...
I don't know if it's 'normal' but I guess I am just here to say, you're not the only one.
If you are eating healthy, staying active, taking your vitamins and the doc/midwife isn't concerned I wouldn't worry about it.
It really isn't hard to lose the weight, especially if you breastfeed.. You will be doing plenty of running around with a newborn, trust me. I was back down to 135lbs before my daughter was a yr old =)
Here is a website though on the 'normal' weight gain for pregnancies.

ummm i wouldnt say normal, how tall are you, if you dont mind me asking, they say if you are heavier when you conceive you should gain less than the recommended 25-30 pounds and if you are smaller you should gain more (only different by 5 or so pounds).. 40 seems a lot for 4 months specially because u dont normally gain more than a few pounds the first trimester. I would say talkto your dr about talkin to a prenatal nutrionist, it may help.
