"The University of Delaware subjects students in its residence halls to a shocking program of ideological reeducation that is referred to in the university’s own materials as a “treatment” for students’ incorrect attitudes and beliefs. The Orwellian program requires the approximately 7,000 students in Delaware’s residence halls to adopt highly specific university-approved views on issues ranging from politics to race, sexuality, sociology, moral philosophy, and environmentalism."

Aside from that, how many schools have programs that teach children that sex before marriage is ok, homosexuality is ok, you are morally obligated to recycle, and that saying word(!) (a racial slur) is the worst sin a person can commit?

Whether you agree or disagree with these positions, they are all moral issues which are being taught in schools... are you ok with that as long as it is your position that's being taught? Apparently so...

Liberals are fascists. If they dont agree with a point, it must be wrong and eradicated. If they do, they are completely mute on the subject.

Umm. Interesting. Sounds radically unjust. Is the U of D a 'liberal' university?

Who is FIRE? Is this a 'conservative' information service?

I don't know where any one teaches that pre-marital sex is right. Guess you'd better ask Bush's daughter.

Are you homophobic? Poor dear.

People are morally obligated to tend to our environment. The greatest environmentalist beaters are conservatives. Not all, but certainly the industrial billionaires.

To hate especially racially is very bad but I don't see it being taught that way in our schools except per chance by an individual teacher going out on a limb.

I thank God that religious belief is not taught in our schools. Schools have enough problem with segregation of races and and the differences between jocks and non-jocks; and the 'beautiful' as opposed to the 'not so beautiful' etc.

I browsed through your link and I could not find a non biased description of what the Univ of Delaware program actually advocates. Just a few quotations which seemed to me to be taken out of context. I have spent the better part of my life in the educational system and I have never been taught, by an authority figure from the institution, that "sex before marriage is ok, homosexuality is ok, you are morally obligated to recycle, and that saying word(!) (a racial slur) is the worst sin a person can commit". I have been exposed to a wide variety of people and I have befriended them.

If they have gone off to university they aren't children anymore, but young adults. If, as a parent, you don't wish to pay to send your young adults to a university that upholds and teaches values you don't like then send them elsewhere! There are plenty of universities who will teach them your own form of idealogy, which clearly you possess. I could be wrong, but I get the distinct feeling you wouldn't even be asking this question if they were teaching that homosexuality were wrong and sought to promote abstinence before marriage. Is it possible you can see the irony in that?

But what is your position on homosexuality and and other races ? Tolerate them or stone them?

It is a bit strange for the university to make all of their students to go sensivity training on social issues. I think the problem in that University is a lot deeper than what is reported in the media.

You are talking about a University?

Well then, people can choose to go to a university or not. They can also choose a lot of other universities that cater to their own interests. I couls care less about a university's curriculum unless I am an active alum who contributes money and time to the institution... if that were the case, I would go through the system (of THAT instituation other than the PUBLIC) and try to change it ot just stop contributing. Problem solved.

BTW, I am not a liberal... I just am a true conservative that feels that universities can control their curriculum instead of me wanting to micromangage them... and if I don't like it I just won't send my kids there.

We have been having this fight for a long time....all we have gotten for our efforts is called stupid and more rights eroded...we wouldn't be as upset about some of the removal of things from public venues because it is a moral issue, if our moral issues weren't removed and then REPLACED with theirs. It's hypocritical.

Brainwashing is for churches. Just because critical thinking skills taught in universities and schools contradict your superstitions does not mean they're wrong.

I have no problem at all with it as long as both sides are presented. That's the core problem with Cons-they got most of their "views" from their parents, when they were infants, and have never bothered to take a look at the other side.

first, the article you link to doesn't give any specifics -- does this "reeducation" require (gasp!) tolerance of gays? or maybe (gasp!) respect for the environment?

i find it amazing that the people who complain most loudly about "rights" in education are defending the "right" to be racist, homophobic, etc. what about the university's right to not house dickheads?

aside from that... hmm... maybe... don't go there?

I'm guessing you wouldn't have no problem what so ever if the university was teaching its student right-wing ideologies.
