What medication can i take for a UTI while pregnant?

I had a UTI early in this pregnancy and my doctor prescribed an antibiotic safe for pregnancy. You will need to talk to your provider about this. There are certain medicines they use early in pregnancy and not late, so it will depend on how far along you are.

Also, if your infection is very mild it might be treated without antibiotics. There is a great book called Natural Alternatives to Antibiotics. You can also Google "natural remedies UTI" and find lots of great options like Uva Ursi and others.

A UTI can also be flushed out sometimes with extra water and cranberry juice. You can treat the pain and/or fever with Tylenol.

Most antibiotics used to treat UTIs are safe during pregnancy. The most common one will be amoxicillin.

Make sure to see your OB, as an untreated UTI can progress to a kidney infection, which is more painful and harder to treat even when you are not pregnant. Some kidney infections even require hospitalization if they go untreated long enough.

Be sure to drink lots of water to help flush your system, and if you don't mind the acidity, cranberry juice really helps as well.
