my power supply is 450 watts. i need to know how much of that I am using. how do I do that?

also, there is a switch on the back of the case with two numbers, 230 and 180. the switch is right next to a fan and (i think) connected to the power supply. what is this?

Hi. The switch is for 120 or 240 volt systems. Don't move it. The wattage you use varies from second to second depending on what your machine is doing. You can add the total of all device wattages if you wish but a simpler thing to do would be to open many applications and read your CD-ROM while burning a DVD. This will tell you if your PSU is adequate. You can also play a game while this is happening to see if it works smoothly, in which case BOTH the PSU and GPU are very good.

Leave the switch alone..your computer is running!
Your power supply converts AC wall voltages to DC voltages. The watts is only a rating and covers power requirements. Your pc uses between 3 and 12 volts..pretty cheap to run actually.
