Absolutely! I am ashamed of the U.K. Post Office services.
However, I have lived in countries where there were no alternatives either, but the Post Office was regularly rated the top public service. In Japan, the Post office offers the best and most trustworthy service I have ever experienced.
People need to take more pride in their jobs.
Public polls help keep companies on their toes and understand both their good points and their bad points.
The Post Office is very important and should be treated with respect. Respect can be given only when the service does what it promises, continually.

I have had my share of problem with the USPS too...
....First of all, all package delivery companies have issues, but USPS is among the worse. If you include postcards and envelopes, the USPS deals with more packages, by far, than any other company. Sheer volume, and the effort to employ as few people as possible to avoid financial ruin, is the reason the USPS has problems keeping up with every single package. Plus, most packages cannot be traced, unless confirmation of delivery is requested. I'm not trying to defend the USPS, just telling you how it is...People wonder why USPS workers "go postal." The numerous customer complaints is a major factor, esp. with supervisors.
There are lots of alternatives. When you want an important package shipped to you, shell out the extra bucks and go with express mail services, or at least Fedex Ground/UPS, where you can trace packages. I used to work for Quality Assurance at Fedex Ground, so I can tell you they (nor UPS) are 100% either. Whenever you want a guarantee use Express services. It's pricey, but worth avoiding potential hassle.

There are several alternative to get parcels delivered, the post office has no monopoly on this sector of the industry.
They're not that bad ... considering the millions of letters & parcels they do deliver, but as with most things, its the failing we hear of ..
ive had loads of parcels,no problems .. guess you were unlucky,

We don't need the post office...we have FedEx, UPS, DHL, fax machines and email. I can't tell you the last time I shipped anything (or had anything shipped that I've purchased online) via the post office. I haven't purchased stamps in over a year. If I can't pay the bill or order something online or over the phone with my debit card, it's not getting paid!

That was the case at one time. They are fighting e mail fed ex UPS for business. It's mostly an occasional employee that should be doing something else.

I agree. They say that they are overworked and underpaid. But I don't think that is a reason to give us bad service. I am going to star this question so that I can follow up on the answers..
