my 6 month old daughter started a new habit lately and I find it hilarious but strange. She used to coo, babble, baby talk, laugh and all that. Only now for some odd reason all that has almost ceased for a very low pitched gurgley Growl. Sounds evil and menacing. It freaks my sister out when she watches her. She also gets this mischevious slantly eye look while shes doing it. I have tried to get her to go back to the cutsie sounds but she prefer the demon baby approach to talking. YIKES does anyone elses kids do that.... OF COURSE I know nothings wrong with her and love her all the same but I am just curious.

I never thought about it but a friend brought up the fact that I have 7 dogs and maybe she learned it from there. Basically we have a garage/barn that we transformed into the DOG PALACE and she can only go in there while I am holding her. We foster and rehabilate dogs. I dont remember hearing growling from the dogs ever so she I think learned it on her own.

forgot to mention 5 of the dogs are in the house usually 2 have to stay out in the Palace.

OMG! My 6 month old does the SAME thing! I think it is hilarious!! She started it about a month ago. I honestly think that they have discovered the gurgley feel in their throat when they do it. Embrace it! And get it on camera!! :)

Well, I am a "child" (12 years) and I growl a lot without meaning to. Kids in class sometimes reach for my things, and boy do they get surprised when they get this human/dog lunging and snarling at them! Sometimes somebody does it to see the reaction. Sometimes I do it for fun, but normally I do it for instinct. Hmm...maybe I'm part cat. That would be cool.

With my first one at about 10 months used to do the same thing. She would also do things with her lips and tongue and make these sounds. She would not necessarily growl she would make a grunt sound where baby's do it in their diapers so I would say it would be an all baby's do it thing.

No growling yet, but my 6 month old son fake coughs. He must have picked up on the immediate attention I gave him when he was coughing once, so now, whenever he is feeling like not enough attention is being showered upon him, he coughs. It's a fake, forced cough, and it is hillarious - cracks his dad and I up. :)

Yup, my son is still doing that! I think he sounds like a wookie from Star Wars.

my baby growls when he's mad it's cute when I am fully alert, but at night that is a totally different story. It kinda scares me... He's a little bit younger though.
