The market sets the prices. If the oil companies can make a profit while crude is rising, kudos to them for being shrewd businessman.

There is no free market. Since 2002, many unregulated-yes unregulated commodity markets have come to be. They are not regulated by the CFTC that regulates that market. That means that markets can be controlled simply by buying and selling large amounts of commodities. The CFTC limits the number of contracts but for the first time, the CFTC can't know how many contracts these institutions buy or sell.

Hopefully enough to make up for the decades of losses that you communist/socialists never complained about when gas was selling below one quarter the original price, adjusted for inflation, even though they were spending ten times the original price to refine crude into gas, when that cost was adjusted for inflation.

That period of multi-billion dollar losses was created by the same free market which caused the current boom for their industry. And yet, I don't remember any of you guys complaining about how unfair it was for the to be forcet to sell their gas at such unfair low prices.
